Rumours: ‘Experts’ say Facebook might buy Nokia for £10B to build FacePhone

First…what? 10 Billion? Nokia’s worth more than that just for the patents alone. Stock market evaluation puts them at 11B (which would be expected to rise sharply should Nokia’s new strategy work out for them and they start bringing in profit again).
Some guy called, Paul Amsellem, managing director of Mobile Network Group, a mobile marketing company reckons
Facebook will launch the FacePhone. And whether it has a blue color and a logo with a big F on it, it will definitely be disruptive,
Computerworld says Microsoft’s already linked to Facebook and Amsellem says the three could be very powerful together.
Amsellem then goes on to say that if not Nokia then RIM. Another Facbeook buy could apparently be Opera.
Lumia is already pretty much a facebook phone. Integrated facebook contacts, integrated facebook feed, integrated facebook photos, integrated facebook chat. And the Blue Lumias are kind of Facebook themed. Not sure it needs any more Facebookness.
Facebook Phone – is that even a good idea?

Cheers Jules for the tip!

What?
This has to be JOKE OF THE YEAR . I never knew that EXPERTS are those who say bullshit.
And Jay , can u go back to the old theme. Ur new theme loads too slowly in mobile.
well this is not a bigger one than microsoft shafting nokia , like right about now. facebook is part microsoft anyways! will be a complete evil empire from where nokia once was. bad company, tsk tsk
Get used to the new theme , its good jay.
New theme is not stable! It just keeps loading and loading (especially the top news)…
NO WAY !!!
facebook’s ipo is a failure, investors are suing fb and suckerberg,
a big f on a phone will stand for Failure,
They should call it Fone lol
yeah. anything but Fb
The current stock price does not reflect the real value of Nokia’a assets, which is why I will never understand what truly drives share prices. But if I had any money, I’d be buying Nokia shares with all of it right now
as I’m sure that sooner or later investors will come back to their senses and the price will go up. Here is an interesting read on why current prices for Nokia shares are completely unjustified and probably will not stay this low for too long: http://seekingalpha.com/article/597161-congratulations-a-nokia-bankruptcy-is-baked-into-the-price-already
I do hope that the FaceNok monster will never see the light of day! I feel that such turn of events will shift focus away from Nokia’s R&D innovation and we will not see hardware breakthroughs like the 808 anymore.
Facebook phone in one shape or another, however, is definitely coming and coming pretty soon (2013, the rumor has it). And it is a great idea for Facebook as this is their answer to Google’s Android. The two might not seem to be competing on the surface, but both generate their revenue through advertising and whoever wins the smartphone/tablet arena will inevitably become the leader as most of consumers steadily shift to mobile computing.
it is a very very good idea.
nokia connecting people (al least in the last 20 year)
facebook share life of user, now and in the future.
from an economic point view is the best rumor that i ve heard.
hope its os will not be wp
Please God, nooooooooooooooo! This had better remain a rumor!
I hate everything about or to do with Facebook!
If this happens, I will be using my Nokia 808 (once I get it) for a lot of years to come. If need be I’m even willing to learn how to develop apps for it. I will never ever buy a Google (Android) or Facebook phone!
The only thing that keeps me using Nokia phones is.. well.. the brand Nokia. They have the best quality, the best antenna, the best of eveything. If it will be no more Nokia, i will be forced to buy Android crap and live the rest of my life struggling with laggy interface on a six-core 2ghz processor. Please, oh god, please make this a very wrong rumour.
Some things for this rumor:
+ There would probably be no anti-competitive officials stopping such a sale. Making someone like Facebook a much more likely candidate for acquisition than Samsung, Google or Apple (or maybe even Microsoft).
+ Facebook has been rumored to be working on a phone. Buying someone like Nokia would give them quick access to the logistics of the mobile phone game.
+ Nokia’s share price has long been too low, making it a prime acquisition target.
Some things against:
- Nokia’s binding deal with Microsoft does probably make them a less interesting acquisition target. Facebook would probably get a better deal, and one more close to home, by buying RIM. BB10 as a the official Facebook phone? Would make more ecosystem sense perhaps.
- No way can anyone buy Nokia at 10 billion at this time. Maybe later if they continue down hill, but expect to need to pay a healthy premium if acquiring now. Hence the price flaunted in this “expert” opinion is not realistic.
- Would Facebook really need someone like Nokia? Would it not be a hinderance to them, unless they really plan to attack the whole breadth of the mobile pricerange? If they are going for a more iPhone-like premium approach, there are better acquisition candidates.
What’s with these Facebook people. Please leave Opera and Nokia alone, I’d much rather you didn’t have anything to do with things I associate frequently with, thank you.
One interesting thing to know is who that expert is.
Paul Amsellem is the previous Head of Nokia France .He had been in place for less than 6 month from September 2011 to January 2012. He was the guy who previously made some very uncomfortable comments (such as being the 1rst one to confirm that Nokia was working on a Windows 8 tablet).
So this guy had some serious insider news on Nokia over the last few month but this latest comment could just be taken as a way to make some bad buzz around its previous employer.
“bad buzz around its previous employer”
it’s the employer that has gone berserk by going to the dark side – that’s certainly the way the vast majority of open eco system supporters do. besides he’s not doing anything evil.
More like facepalm than facephone. Facebook is nothing really; I’m sure they can’t stand the test of time. In a few years they’re gone but Nokia has more than 100 years of existence.
Hmm..that means, nokia is allready sold, just like they did with microsoft…eager for power…eager for highest B€€€.score..fear&hate droid/apple perspective or any advantage…and for any price to rule the world, i guess that’s allready dun guys…it’s just the mater of afficial anoncements an sign a deal…and that’s the end of tech-polarity&concurenc in between big bosses….but the end of love on handdevices for using social networks other than fuckbook where homo&homophobic cops will allways watch ewerything in to complet device in your palm of your hand and even take control of you…the phone will become more like id-card…..guys this is not good for society!!!
Paul Amsellem ? The same guy that was recently hired as country manager for NOKIA in France and left a few month later ?
Come on !
That would be a disaster for Nokia.
Think HP and Palm.
Facebook would chew them up and spit them out (no interest, respect, or passion for Nokias history).
10 billion? What a joke.
Pump and Dump strategy by this shill. Buy options and then bid up the price with pieces of garbage and then sell once the realisation hits.
Eh. Facebook has already tried to get into bef with a few manufactures. That HTC with the Facebook quick share button, Sony Ericsson ay the time stating they would be the most Facebook integrated.
Maybe Facebook will pay Nokia £10million to produce a phone for them, but I can’t see an acquisition Facebook stock on its own continues to fall.
Sorry. But it is not even possible to buy at that price. Nokias shareholders know that there is a written rule that buyer must pay at least twice the price of last years average stock price. Can’t say the source now, but maybe Janne or somebody knows this better. Heard that in an interview on Finnish national radio (YLE) just a few weeks ago.
last nokia for me n97!!real geeks want a linux phone, complete openeness.nokia missed that and is now an ex champion!make me laugh those aigais’nt samsung or android;what about microsoft? nokia is on the downslope, the only sad thing is that no one has managed to fill the gap,the need for another philosophy.maybe itsdue to the power of a real appstore.
when will get just hardware and put whatever os we like?fuc* the patents business blocking technology!
