Nokia 808 PureView: Rich recording with Momo Geisha featuring Henri Lamiri performing in Konser Tanpa Nama
I am not quite sure if this is as the description claims but it says this is recorded by the Nokia 808 PureView.
The sound quality is definitely very good – it’s probably a very difficult clip to get that stereo sound since you don’t have subjects moving from left to right or different sounds emanating from different directions.
I don’t understand what is being sang but it sounds beautiful; very calming.

I think this was shot at the same time but by a different device. You can see how much worse the second recording is.
Playing both very loud on some quality speakers, the first recording is very pleasant whilst the second one is painful to listen to.
Another thing the 808 PureView’s rich recording will excel in is recording very loud audio. Most phones will have crackling sound when the surrounding volume is very high.

Cheers stefan for the tip!

- Early Rich Recording with Nokia 808 PureView | PureView Club | May 31, 2012

sounds malay to me haha.. from my uneducated Singaporean ears. rich recording is really awesome for a phone! I think the next step would be for Nokia to try to bring Rich Recording to condenser microphone levels!
I wonder how the N9 compares to this tho.. am sure the N9 won’t be as good but i’ve been curious how close the N9′s microphone’s response performs with the 808..
Should be quite close, their base specs are very similar inc. DSP etc.*
Big difference is that N9 doesn’t support DDL… only DH.
I look forward to seeing some proper audiophile comparos between them.
*I suspect the 808 will be notably better speaker-wise, but headphones should be close too.
It’s Malay
or maybe Indon lol
N9 sounds great too: mynokiablog.com/2012/01/23/amazing-sound-recording-from-nokia-n9/ I have seven videos on youtube, check my oh1jari channel there.
yup. N9 seems to record a whole lot clearer than N8. Better stereo, can record in louder conditions better.
i think thats indonesian for me…..
i’ve studied for 2 years in there
Its good !!
808 for sure. The focus “hunting” gives it away.. you can see the same thing in topolino’s video.
As far as the sound recording, the real test will be to go to a Digweed show and see how it does in the middle of the dance floor.
‘Foucs hunting’ .. was that the reason behind delay ? (i think so)
that and pixel binding algorithm (PureView 5MP, 3MP, 8MP). Images are way to soft/blurry.
Check the AAS photo shootout. Full 38MP images are unaffected.
Cheers,
Miki
yeah, and if you put good headphones, you can actually hear the really deep bass that other cellphones can’t record… even dsrls… jesus..when is nokia going to release this damn.
That indonesian artist…awsome
Indonesian song, its normal if you don’t understand it
>>malaysian
hey,,,,Momo “Geisha” is an Indonesian singer.
Think Nokia Indonesia will bring 808 asap here.Hopefully.
That concert was held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday.
more photos from Nokia 808 PureView during the concert

Whoooaah.!! Streaming this on my N8 connected to two Nokia 360 speakers I could already reap the benefits of the Rich Recording features..
Btw, the song Cobalah Mengerti – Try To Understand*how ironic(?) was sung in an Indonesian concert, Konsert Tanpa Nama which in direct English translation means The Unnamed Concert. Singer is well known in the local Indonesian music scene.
Not ginna lie there wayyyy to many words in that tile that i gave up on pronouncing
That’s nice actually.
I bet many people with a negative attitude towards the Symbian OS will buy this just to be used as a camera. I don’t think Symbian will be a problem if you just use the device as a camera without a SIM card and keep you current phone. Buying it for that purpose will generate Nokia some sales after the price comes down to reasonable levels such as 300$ or close to it. Maybe even 400$ for some users with some loose cash.
I really think that’s the way Nokia will sell a good amount of those to users without any intention to get an actual mobile phone with a Symbian OS. That’s still revenue!
Even as ‘just a camera’ the 808 is worth more than $300 or $400. I bought a Sony CyberShot for my fiancé in 2011 for $379, Carl Zeiss 16MP 1080p and stereo recording. No where near the ability of the 808
It would be worth more with the optical zoom it’s now lacking.
Possibly worth more without Symbian or that fully hidden. Yeah, Symbian’s reputation is that bad. For some people that is.
You know, some people will find that quite insulting. And rather ignorant. Oh well…
Symbian can be used as a smartphone OS .. i use one every day, it works just fine.
That’s not the point.
From the selling point it’s all about Symbian’s reputation. It’s just ruined and that happaned after the N97 was brought to the market. Sure, it’s not that simple because people had some severe problems with their phones pre-N97 but that was the turning point.
It’s not about what it actually is. It’s about people thinking that Windows is stable compared to the Symbian. There are lot’s of people that actually despise Symbian after owning the N97 and they are spreading the word. Still in blogs, workplaces, wherever people talks about phones and ask about opinions.
Windows Phone works just fine and the hard core Symbian users hate it. Luckily for the Nokia they are nowdays the minority.
A opinion by an American doesnt count so stay i your lane
“Luckily for the Nokia”
Are you sure about that?
Yeah, I’m sure about that.
The majority of the people want to get the job done. Not some specs with 57 simultaneous programs and geek stuff like USB On-The-Go.
Wow, listening to the video using my sennheiser really gives me a shiver. This is a god damn nice recording, not to mention it’s from a phone!
Well done Nokia! Now if only this feature could be marketed well, oh right, only lumias deserve well marketing :/
If Nokia understands their job (cannot be taken for granted), they should know it is in their very best interest to market Nokia 808 PureView and its features as best as they can. If it is Lumia priority first then it is in the long term interest to show case Nokia PureView, Nokia Rich Recording, Nokia grade sensors, lenses etc as that will end up in Lumia PureView.
A good reputation for one Nokia product with potential OS agnostic features is good for all Nokia products, particularly successors looking to carry those features on.
i dunno but that recording looks bad to me….
and the sound isnt spectacular at least compared with the N8 would probably need a more robust concert to judge the recording prowess
If we had a more scientific comparison, or as you correctly suggest, a more robust concert, I’d expect the 808 to decimate even the N8 in sound recording. N8 can’t tolerate loud volumes. Oddly N9/N900 could. N8 has a strangle crackling phenomenon going on.
808 will also produce a more realistic stereo recording and in all essence, just be richer.
i certainly hope so the tech specs certainly shows that as for the n8 i haven’t had any issues at concerts however i havent been to any bass heavy concerts with it
i can assure you that the n8 cant handle loud volume.. this video made by me show that limit –> http://youtu.be/3Fmspl2_n98?hd=1
with heavy bass you can easily see the n8 microphone limit..
Same. From Sum41 to just some friends playing the drums in the same room – it gets very harsh when it’s recording very loud things. N9 doesn’t have this problem, nor did N900 and I suspect 808 won’t either (Nokia have demoed similar videos of recording a live band).
wow… ive been to some loud, in terms of volume, not bass, concerts with the n8 and it wouldn’t cut out like that i guess the n8 hates bass lol
(like loud enough i would need to cover my ears)
ill upload one of them and share gotta go through my folders
and just to clarify i’m not saying i believe the n8 is better or as good im just saying you cant really tell from that video
like this one
http://youtu.be/pQNb8dc6BLY?hd=1
it may not seem too loud but like i said in the description i couldnt hear my cousin speaking to me
the concert was in an arena for 19,000 ppl btw
there was an even louder song that caused everyone to cover their ears and that one did have a quite bit of cutting out but not as bad as that club one of yours
this is louder and doesnt youtu.be/kZpPzZ3-u1A?=hd1
but this one.. craps out a lot :/
Actually I’m pretty much blown away if this was in fact the 808. I judged this based on my favourite ER4p earphones and it was crystal clear and had no clipping whatsoever. The bass went deep and the treble just as high as well.
Logic is telling me now that a phone recording isn’t supposed to sound like that. Although the video (image) quality isn’t that spectacular, I’d say it’s pretty much expected coming from the relatively (comparing to DSLRs, and actually DSLRs like the 550D aren’t that great even in low light) small sensor size in such a darkened room. The beginning of the video was much better when we see PV being employed than compared to later on when zoomed in.
You must watch the first video, not second
oh dont get me wrong it sounds great but as was said maybe with a more robust concert we could really tell how the 808 shines because with this song (which sounds beautiful btw) it doesn’t really impress when compared with an N8
Fantastic find Jay, how did you get hold of this pretty unique recording if I may ask? Was happy to link to it as well.
Marc
Uuuh, sounds very good and clear.
I’ll go and see “Yamato – the drummers of Japan” end of August. I hope my Nokia 808 (YES!!! I have preordered it!!!) will be in my hands at this concert. I’m curious how it will perform with the very special sound of Yamato.
If it is really recorded with a 808, I must admit that it is very impressive ! I use my N8 to capture live performance, and I still have noise problem. In this video, no noise at all. We can see all the stage perfectly, despite the low light. With a manual focus and a better exposure it could be even better.
Wowww… a nice surprise to see Indonesian artist mentioned here “just because” it’s recorded by Nokia 808 PureView.
Anyway, the song is a very sad one and actually the band’s lead vocalist is a man but he is imprisoned thus they featured her.
Hope you enjoy the song (and PureView quality) =D
its indonesian singer, glad to see her in this site especially related with nokia pureview
btw i am indonesia too
now i am sure getting this phone asap
