Nokia 808 PureView Night Time Long Exposure
We’ve previously seen some long exposures from the 808 PureView in daylight with the ND filter.

At night when light levels are very low, taking long exposure snaps (sans ND filter) can create some really creative light streaks, as well as making night look like day.

You would normally need to set up the camera on a tripod as long exposures requires the frame to be dead still. I’m not sure how long the 808′s long exposure mode is but generally people can work all the way up to 30s or more.
During this time the sensor is gathering in all the light, a bit like a venusaur gathering light for solarbeam (I don’t know why I made that comparison). The longer the time allowed, the brighter the picture. Normally for really long exposures, you would tweak the settings to get a lower ISO and smaller aperture. This reduces the amount of light going to the sensor to prevent over exposure and a wash of white if you have too much light.
I’ve been wishing for long exposures on Nokias for a while. During the N900 hacks scene, a group did modify the Nokia N900 so that people could draw with light and the N900′s long exposure mode could record all of that into one picture.
It seems in the above picture you can achieve some long exposure but not quite long enough to produce that single slight stream.
You can create other effects too, such as ghosting (where someone goes into a picture and moves away producing a transparent ghost). You can play about with motion in this.
Not long exposure but a nice shot with the 808
Cheers Ahmed for the tip!

he only used a 1 sec shutter though instead of the 2.7 that damian claims its capable of i imagine he’d be able to get much better lines with that
ah he has one that he took with 2.4 sec and used a tripod its better but not by much
ah well good enough

hi,
i could have used the full 2.7sec but at that time i didn’t got any tripod i thought a 1sec at that shot was enough
Well, that’s really good news!
I’ve had a long discussion (via Nokia Conversations, I guess) with Damian Dinning regarding long exposures for the N8, and 2 seconds was precisely what I was expecting the N8 to capture.
I had a Pixon 12 that could capture 2 seconds exposures @ ISO 50 and the results were pretty impressive.
Do you know if it can capture 2sec shots at that ISO level? Pureview with those settings would be simply stunning!
Cannot wait to get my hands on it!
Actually, I’ve just checked the EXIF for his 2.4 seconds shot and it’s already answered my question!
It’s possible to take 2 seconds exposures @ ISO 50!
REALLY GREAT NEWS!
How can I anjust the exposure TIME an N8? With the general exposure-slider (Ranging from -2 to 2)? What means this “scale” and what means “-2″ then?
So ND filter ON + iso 50 will give you 2.4 secs of exposure in low light ?
according to sea breeze (the guy who took the photos)
“By the use of the ND-filter Off/On and ISO50-800
ISO-50 gives 2 sec Exposure
ISO-100 gives 2.7 sec
ISO-800 gives 1 Second”
off not on
how close can the 808 pure view get in macro mode
Around 15cm but after you focus before taking a shot, you can zoom in and then capture and the results will be amazing.
you’ll get something like this pic I captured
http://www.flickr.com/photos/68952449@N06/7365521540/
but I forgot how much I zoomed in
Impressive! B)
15cm to still be able to fully zoom
i think its much closer in creative + without being able to zoom
how do you enable and change shutter speed? or this is just playing with the exposer options? the one with the +/- icon?
yea ., u could easily achieve a 2.7sec exposure but need a tripod.
thx for posting my photo
cheers and have fun with your 808
that’s one with a ghost effect , iso 50 , 2.7 sec. exposure
