Apparently in the 2011 IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards), Nokia’s Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900 won design GOLD awards.

Lumia 800 & 900 by Nokia

At the 2011 IDEA awards, Windows Phone 7 won Best in Show, now it’s Nokia’s Lumia 800 and Lumia 900 that get the glory. Entered separately, the Jury chose to reward the Lumia series for its distinctive contribution to smartphone design.

The Jury said, “In a market in which it is difficult to stand out, the Nokia Lumia brings a fresh perspective. The iconic form is personal and inviting without sacrificing precision, and the construction is modern, efficient and well-crafted down to the smallest details. It’s a bold, gold-worthy effort, and I’m glad to see Nokia reclaim its design swagger.” Jonah Becker, Principal and Creative Director, One & Co.

Look at the beauty. Oh ya Cyan 900 and 800!! Sammy and Apple still cry at that incredible look, feel, quality and an OS system that leaves IOS and Jelly Bean (lol) in the dust. My,my,my. I can understand another award. Well at least Sammy got one for a hot plate.

cool? shouldnt this be an award for the N9 though? or is the OS a consideration as well ?

Pretty sure its the hardware/OS combination that made it to the awards. The N9 just looks far too mainstream (the icon style) and utilitarian.

Superficially it may look mainstream, but if you’ve used it heavily you know it doesn’t bleed like that all the way through.
        Far from it…..

And we know the N9/800/900(maybe less so -we dont know) form was originally very much designed around it’s UX.
It just so happens that it tends to work well with the WP UX too, fortuitously.

Oh no! Awards! Now they will discontinue those products…

Nothing nice about AT&T prices. Who cares if the phone is “free”, when you pay $60 / month for 900 minutes of talk time + $50 / month for 5 GB of data and $20 / month for unlimited SMS. Yea, free phone, but $130 (times 24) for the contract. All for the cheap total price of $3120…
