Video: Nokia 808 PureView vs. HTC One X test video

| July 9, 2012 | 15 Replies

It’s not like we need any more comparisons of the Nokia 808 PureView against other camera phones. I guess it’s useful for the competing camera phones to see how good theirs is in comparison to the new standard.

Immediately noticeable is the wider angle in the 808 and also, oddly, the 808 is the one with the warmer colours. Also is it me or is the one X’s video quite jittery/poor stabilisation?

The stark difference in the audio is amazing. Seems like the HTC is still recording sound with potato microphones. Listen to how rich the 808′s sound is with Rich Recording. Also notice how the sound of the cars moving left to right and so forth is replicated with properly placed stereo microphones (vs mono or N8 like stereo).

Wow 1080p on the OneX seems quite amateur hour here but vastly improved over their potato film days. It’s a great thing that the OneX has many other things going for it (like that N9eqsue monoblock of polycarbonate and curvy screens :p).

you would thing they would have rigged something up to hold 2 phones by now so they dont have to walk around like that

I hope Nokia would make an improved version of the 808 with an optical zoom. That would make it only slightly thicker.

Actually adding an optical zoom would not make the 808 any thicker according to some people.

Not necessarily agreeing with you, yet it kinda reminds me of Leo. The damn thing could’ve very well rocked the world of android, had it taken off properly, don’t know why it never showed up globally:

The backs of black ones are really fantastic:

Anyway, you do realize, traditional optical zoom has its own list of demerits (motor noise while recording, extra battery consumption due to required mechanical energy, hyper-sensitive shaking at higher zoom levels… just to name a few)?

For convenience, don’t forget to choose “English” at the bottom right of page.

        +1 now that’s a post.

None of this weird/constant propaganda that Lord US is only ever interested in posting.
(not referring to post in this thread so much, see entire history)

Stop the video at 41 seconds and look at the number plate of that car on the right ..
Although the colours are saturated on the One X, unfortunately, it looks a lot clearer than the 808.
You can see the same again by pausing it at 59 seconds and looking at the metal plaque.
I am genuinely disappointed with the video on the 808.

    • Banderpop says:

There’s not much point in using YouTube to compare video quality anymore. The videos that the 808 takes, and the N8 before it, tend to get recompressed to about a quarter of the original bitrate, and contrast levels get altered. No doubt other phone videos suffer also to varying degrees. Recompression would have had to occur in the editing process also, when splitting the video into two halves. Stabilisation, focusing, audio and maybe frame rate are all that’s left really, and even then these things can’t be 100% trusted if the video producers tinker too much or don’t fully know what they are doing.

    • Banderpop says:

Actually, forget all that. What’s happening with the number plate is nothing more than the 808 recording with a wider angle, so it appears larger on the One X side. Maybe if the 808 had zoomed in a little, the two sides would have matched up better.

    • ahmed shouhdy says:

cause the oneX is a cropped 1080p not a real wide 1080p as the 808 !

  4. ertwertwe says:

    Why they don’t compare zoom?

  5. ertwertwe says:

And why they don’t test video light?

  6. André says:

Only camera… and software? gestion of batery, memory, screen, quality of product? cmartphone is not camera only
