Goodbye Metro, Hello…?

| August 3, 2012 | 60 Replies

Sit back down tile haters, it’s not the actual design language from the WP interface itself that’s disappearing. Just the branding of the Metro Interface. Metro – or whatever it will be called, is here to stay for a bit, as evident by all the recent windows related products.

The Verge reports that after discussions with a ‘very important European partner’, Microsoft will discontinue the use of Metro branding across all its products. Metro may be too broad a term.

What would be a catchier name? What do you think of when you here Metro?

Trains? Newspaper? Very fashionable men?

Is the very important European partner, Nokia? What do you think Nokia wants to call it? Laatat? :P

Well, I read that “very important European partner” could be the Metro AG here in Germany. They are responsible for electronic markets like Saturn or MediaMarkt/MediaWorld.

When I first saw it I likened it to Tetris, so – Tetris UI. Then again Tetris is a trademark as well… How about W-Tile – fans can call it Windows Tile UI, critics can call it Washroom Tile UI and everybody would be happy.

    Just call it Bauhaus.

I personally think they should call the design language ‘pre-school chik’ instead of metro and maybe sing a deal with the BBC and Chapman Entertainment to get bob the builder as the official mascot of Windows 8 and windows phone 8.
