How would you change the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820?
We’ve had a week now to settle in to the newly announced Nokia Lumias. There’s a lot to like but there’s always as ever, room for improvement.
If you could, what would you have changed about the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820?
Features wise, design wise…? I’m sure I can already guess who will be screaming for an OS change.
You’re welcome to say so but think of this more as a feedback form for the next Lumia. I guess it would help if we actually had one that we could use and give real feedback on (because we might end up liking something we thought we wouldn’t and vice versa).

the onley thing i want to change on the 920 is its camera, i want the 41 mpixels from the 808 and some softwere to run windows programs on the windowsphone8, old good games!!!!!
Yes you are right, it should have had pure wiew v1 and v2. and then an option to run Harmattan..
I would like to see that phone as it is and a smaller brother with a smaller screen. i know people loving big screens and i know people (like me) that would love to have a screensize smaller than the N8.
Would be nice to see a variant of the 920 as a slider with a physical QWERTY – like the dev-only N950. OS, wouldn’t change it, like to give WP8 a chance to prove itself, among the sea of ‘droids. Camera should be the same, the 808′s module will bring the bump at the rear which won’t be ideal.
1. Remove the screws at the bottom
2. Smaller size. Take away the LTE if you have to. Keep pure view
3. Reduce the weight by 20-30 gms.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the worlds finest nit picker….
Wanna make sure that not even a single device is sold in the USA, where no mobile provider wants a smartphone without LTE? Great idea…
Put an Meego on it and i will buy it in a heartbeat. now i have to wait for jolla..
Oh and ofcourse, remove the freaking buttons!!
Yes, how much screen extra would that bring? L800 vs N9 it gave 0,2″ this would properly give min 0,3″. Then you could make the phone smaller or the screen bigger. I would go for a smaller phone.
Hmm. I think that i would take the extra ~0,3″ for the screen. because it is super easy use even large phone W/O need to use buttons located below screen. Did notice that when i tested L900 in store.
I am with you all, you are just right. The body can stay but inside I expect normal N9 and MeeGo standard. That would be THE mobile IMHO. Millions would love it.
Put Android on it
Matte finish in Cyan. WANT!
Maby some rounded edges on the tiles, but not much. Maby design some more stucture in the tiles, make them more alive… I like tho look and will buy it but it lools a little bit… hard.
Nokia, please come up with a slimmest phone, with your new camera layered sensor technology.
Based on Iphone 5 sales, its obvious that a 4.5″ is too big for most of the consumers here in US. The new lumia 920 is big and is also heavy.
One thing we all need to understand is, most of the people in US do not care about specs or features…(when I bought the Lumia 900, a couple behind me bought two Iphone 3gs…I mean Iphone 3gs…I knew the guy as he works in the same company as I do….but I still could not convince him to buy a lumia 900…thats even after explaining him that he could get 900 for free after Nokia cash back)
I think, Nokia should go back to their and produce a metal phone, which would be lightest and sexiest looking phone that the world has ever seen…
Even though Lumia has this innovative approach using polycarbonate material…average people still think its just a plastic….in no way they think that its grand or luxurious…I even read an article by an analyst who quotes Iphone 5 as rolex and others as timex…
I know we all like Nokia Lumia series….but somehow I am worried about Nokia’s future…
P.S. I am long time Nokia fan…so please don’t question my loyalties..
Worried with good reason. You’re not the only one.
2 things i forgot:
-Camera features: Ability to quickly take a photo when the phone is locked and ability to take a photo while shooting a video, HDR (which i think should be possible through the lenses apps.
-True multitasking and costumization.
“Ability to quickly take a photo when the phone is locked”
-> Dedicated camera button?
“True multitasking”
-> Was confirmed by Microsoft for WP8.
“costumization”
-> Is up to the users themselves (Startscreen, White or Black Background, Accentcolor, Lock-Screen Background, Ringtones…)
And by the way, all that is just software. As we don’t yet know exactly what WP8 will look like in the end, wait for it.
landscape support. haveb’t used wp7 but get a feeling it’s not landscape friendly.
Not correct. WP7 is landscape friendly.
However, like in any other mobileOS out there I tested, Startscreen and of course some Apps aren’t landscape friendly.
first of all MeeGo please nokia forget wp, i want new symbian or more MeeGo, for mi 4″ display, and all display no buttons on it, i have an n8 and i don’t like wp, and of course true multitasking.
Bring on a dual boot, i dont want windows on my phone. I need a choice.
Nokia Lumia 920 needs a microSD slot. Period.
Meego 2.0 inside. And everything’s ok.
I think 4.5″ screen is ideal. I find my 4.3 Droid Razr screen a bit small but find the 4.8 to be too big. The bezel on the Lumia 920 kills it for me. It makes it so much more wider and taller. Decrease the bezel both in width and height, decrease the thicknes to 8mm (if necessary take out wireless charging). Make the materials to be aluminum and glass. I hate how cheap plastic feels. Would be nice to have the pureview from 808, nice but not necessary.
-What if the tiles in windows phone 8 can be made transparent..
- There should be an option to change the colour of the tiles to any colour we want. There should be a colour picker to pick colours from photos etc.. just an idea
- If tiles can be made white colour and transparent, we could have an option to keep a wallpaper behind it, it would be beautiful.
- what if an option of live wallpaper (i know it consumes battery, but for people who like it).
I’d have the 920 as a 4.0″ inch with the glass flush with the case like the iPhone. The glass protruding out is a big aesthetic no-no to me.
Harmattan 2.0.
Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!… Harmattan!!…
Hi,
First ran I am very pleased that you kept the design of Lumia 800-900. I was afraid that you will come up with a new design that would have been uninspiring.
I love this design, the minimalist. Clearly differentiated from the rest of other mobile phone on the market.
Nokia, becomes somewhat and otherwise, I emphasize … is nothing.
However, personally I prefer the size of 800, because after all it is a phone, must somehow fit in your pocket, do not go with brick for me.
I mean to be a giant alternative to 920.
Dear Mihail, note: this Nokia N9 design, used for Lumias. Just for your info. This is historical fact.
The Lumia 920 is a bit too big. Furthermore I wonder if a 2000 mAh battery is enough, I own a Lumia 900 and battery lasts hardly one day on heavy use.
1. Edge to edge display…thinner bezel
2. Slimmer dimension
3. Physical qwerty keypad variant…like the droid pro…
AMOLED Display!
I would change them both by exchange Windows with MeeGo HArmattan or Meltemi. That would be it.
ringtone choice from music library for phone ringing sound, same for mesage sound, don’t like that you have to choose microsoft’s sounds…. same specks of 920 but 4 inches display and 12mp camera with pureview
This phone is the best, I wouldn’t change any part of it, I just developer develop more apps for this phone, it may take some time.
