Screen Shot 2012-12-19 at 18.07.31As noted by Ali earlier, NokConv confirms that the US and Canada now have updates available for Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 users.

Note battery improvements and imaging improvements as well as many other enhancements.

Today’s update brings the following enhancements to the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820:

  • Enhancements in Messaging

  • More efficient and reliable Bluetooth connectivity

  • More efficient and reliable start-up sequence

  • Enhancements in imaging performance and battery management

  • Additional platform updates and enhancements

The next bit I don’t seem to understand. Are the rest of the users supposed to wait until February 2013?

Although this update is initially available for owners on AT&T and Rogers in North America, we haven’t forgotten about Lumia owners in other markets. Rest assured, we are working with Microsoft and our operator partners around the globe to ensure the highest quality software updates for our family of Lumia smartphones. Together with Microsoft, we aim at beginning to deliver these updates to other markets in early February 2013

Good news and bad news that it’s not being rolled out together.. Or at least quickly..

  • senshi

Woah I hope that is not true. I’m lucky my 920 has been fault free so that I’m not dying for the update but leaving international unlock 920s which don’t need carrier testing and all that without an update for a whole month or more is just not cool.

I’m not complaining (although my 920 does have some issues with tiles failing to update, and tile shortcuts crashing etc.) but out of curiosity why do users have to wait between the two? I would have thought the At&t one would take longer to prepare simply because At&t have to push it through their servers etc. But why not the same update? Or does it have to do with the 4G radio in At&t version?

I believe the holidays are to blame here. Carriers will continue testing the update only sometime in January which will push it until Feb 2013.

  • Muerte

Maybe it is faster for SIM-free devices?

  • dkNigs

Seriously? Telstra have managed to stuff their firmware so I can’t even send an SMS longer than 160 characters, but we have to wait until Feb? Go suck a lemon Nokia.

Oh man, I just clicked check updates to see if its showing and now its downloading it! Well, I hope my hotel wifi here in Sarajevo does not crash in the middle of it. :D

ps. Like I mentioned in the 820 review thread, just saw a Bosnian model sporting a red 820 (there was a fashion show in my hotel lobby just half an hour ago).

Seriously Nokia? International owners have to wait til next year. I don’t understand that logic. All other OEMs, and correct me if am wrong, push updates to international & carrier unlocked devices first. America will kill you Nokia, the world is bigger than them

    • Viipottaja

I would guess its just the order in which the devices were rolled into the market (Canada and the US were the first countries to get the 920) and/or where most sales have been to date, more than anything else.

      • dkNigs

US have a different hardware model with 700mhz LTE. Its a different phone.

  • Mark

Ah, good old Nokia… doing something right and then making a balls of it by delaying things.

    • Viipottaja

I am not complaining. Just updated mine. You guys are so Europe and rest of the world centric.. :P

Just got an email my ATT yellow 920 has shipped. Thank you Elop ! ….so how was the fashion show? Beautiful models, I presume? We’re getting a snowstorm here in the morning for a couple days. Seems you are winning here.

Happy “fuzzy/soft 920 camera pictures” Xmas for every Europeans, including me, lol. Well taking my N8 to parents house so whole family can watch few new movies, hdmi ftw!

  • stylinred

so since i unlocked my fathers phone from Rogers would i have to download the update from navifirm myself and flash it for him? or could he expect it over the air regardless?

  • Mazze

Wow, this is ridiculous. How can it be so difficult to twist that update to unlocked phones? And this is supposed to take 2 months? Insane!

  • aboodesta

This is infuriating. My 920 has really annoying bugs ( like switching off by itself whenever I use wireless charging, or sometimes even without that, and requiring a soft reset! ). @)#*&$^%$@^$*(*)_

    • nabkawe

same here with the wireless charging thing ,, my wireless charger is now useless even though I paid 665 for the phone and 65$ for the charger … such a joke I have to wait 2 months for a CRITICAL UPDATE.

    • jr

Just go to nokia navifirm, from there you can update your phone ! No need to wait

  • 8millions
  • Pökö

This is bullshit. My phone reboots every single day at least twice. Waiting This update Really so much… Unbelievable.

  • Sefriol

I don’t really understand what takes them so long to release it for rest of the world. Or maybe Holiday season has something to do with it, but still. Wasn’t main advances of WP being fast update for everyone in the world?

  • Sisqo88

Its all a Big Lie just Look to navifirm ans you can See Some EU Versions of the New Portio Update i think it will roll Out by the end of the week in all countries

  • JGrove303

We Americans had to wait for Symbian updates, damn near the last in line. Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot, huh?

    • Pökö

If you buy through operator you ought to wait for a while. But why should any unlocked phone owners wait?

Or at least please tell me what we are waiting.

      • Void

Country specific settings. That’s what you have to wait for. Different countries (even between european countries) have different settings. Thus, an update for another country doesn’t instantly work for another. Sometimes you’re lucky and the differences are so few that it works, maybe 4g won’t work but if you don’t use it it’s fine for you. That doesn’t mean Nokia will release unfinished versions to other countries.
Also, it’s the holidays, they focused on the US and now it’s holidays so they will start by january and to get it to most countries it will take time.
Another thing: The next big WP8 update is supposed to be out by february. The update includes a notification list that has been missing plus other stuff. I’m guessing Nokia will use that also on the international update.
