A while ago something like this would have belonged in our “My Dream Nokia” section (remember those side barrel rotating huge lens with 41mp concepts?). The specs and the name seem Nokia like.

N1, 6 element lens, and swivel camera as seen in the likes of the N90 or 3250 as a couple of examples. But this is neither a concept nor is it a Nokia.

It’s a device from Oppo and it’s real. I thought since it was shared with us by a MNB reader that it’s good to consider this form factor at least for future devices.

It’s the ultimate for selfies and group photos, no since not only do you have the main camera and viewfinder positioned towards you but you also have the dual LEDs there. The camera is said to open in 0.6 seconds but the demo video (using an engineering sample) looks a bit slower (4-5 seconds).

All that of course is for nothing if the camera quality actually sucks. We’ll wait to see if that’s any good. The long term durability of that hinge is a concern. Oppo claims to have tested it for 100,000 movements.

Check out engadget’s hands on post for more details: http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/23/oppo-n1-hands-on-video/

It seems it has a cool touch panel at the back, useful for taking a picture on something so large as this phablet perhaps.

Something else quite interesting is this gesture to start apps thing. At first it looks a bit overdone as you have to pull down a drawing pad and then draw (Say a V) to start the torch. You could just as simply press the homescreen button and press the torch app (should that be your set up). But what’s cool is a bit like the first time you see double tap to unlock, you can do these gestures when the screen is off.

On the processor side, it’s Qualcomm S600 (1.7GHz Quadcore)

Currently only TDS-CDMA for China Mobile only.

Cheers Ammad for the tip
