Perhaps the patient has consented to this and they’ve worked out some infection control issues, but here you see a surgeon film some heart surgery on his Nokia Lumia 1020.

probably first time Nokia lumia 1020 used to video record an open heart surgery for mitral valve replacement with excision of rare interatrial septal aneurysm and decron patch reconstruction of atrial septum. The operation was carried out by dr pavan kumar ,heart surgeon at Lilavati hospital mumbai India.

Although I’m occasionally in surgery and we get to see some extremely interesting procedures, you’re not allowed to use your cameras in the theatre (unless perhaps taking a picture of something on the wall, a document or it’s a patient taking a picture of their newborn baby). From what I’ve observed, the anaesthetists are often checking their phone, playing games. One even brings his tablet, occasionally pausing to check patient’s vitals. They’d probably be able to make better use of the 1020 and use that zoom from a safe distance. :p
