The Samsung Galaxy S5 is being touted as a super amazing camera. Here it is being compared against Nokia’s number 2, the Nokia Lumia 930. (identical to 1520/icon’s 20MP camera. Rank 3 if we shift the ranks by including the 808).

Because there’s no proper HDR mode, the S5 wins it out. But kudos on Samsung though – the pictures do look great.  I do find the HDR setting impressive (even their simulated HDR on Omnia 7 looked pretty nice). – though Nokia’s single shots without HDR have some great dynamic range especially with ‘backlight scene mode’ used.

Don’t worry too much about detail as the camera comparison seems to look at a 5MP compressed version of the 930 vs the 16MP version of the S5.

Sammy still can’t touch Nokia in low light. Redditors also notice that if we’re going to mention HDR, we could also mention RAW.

We expect that should McLaren have 20MP also, it somehow needs to pack the punches the 1020 was pulling.
