Press Release: Nokia reaffirms it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets

NOKIA LOGOIn the latest will they won’t they, Nokia says they have no plans to “manufacture” or “sell” consumer handsets. Does this necessarily stop them selling the license to the Nokia name for smartphones or even designing the smartphone and have someone else manufacture and sell them?

They take back claims supposedly made by the company via the Nokia China president that the R&D facility in China would be the base and manufacturing to take place in China. These comments are said to be wrongly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive (when I checked LinkedIn at the time, I wondered if it just hadn’t been updated as the name given only said Nokia Networks).

Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive.

Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets.

Cheers Otto for the tip!
