Nokia Lumia 925 performs better than the HTC One camera apparently. Just not as good as the Nokia Lumia 925.

What happens when Nokia unleashes the ORIGINAL PureView for Lumia? Uh HTC. I’m really looking forward to Smart Camera.

The Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 925 are pitted against the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Each the respective flagship of the brand.

The Nokia Lumia 925 is bar none the absolute best performer in low light, but also captures great detail in day time too, limited this time it seems by the mp count apparently :/ (vs 13mp in the SGSIV).

If MP count detail is anything to go by, Nokia’s next flagship will wipe the floor with everyone. Wipe the floor. Like the 808 has been doing, but more current since this one should have MS’s advertising backing too.

http://recombu.com/mobile/news/lumia-925-vs-lumia-920-galaxy-s4-htc-one-camera_M19274.html

We can still hope for camera improvements as the Amber update arrives for 920 and other lumia WP8.

Cheers viipottaja for the tip!

Bill Plummer, Huawei’s VP for external affairs denies considering buying Nokia and has apparently ‘no plans to acquire Nokia’.

Whilst looking up Pelican Imaging, the start up which Nokia has investment in for its Lumia range, I came across a new video. Below, instead of showing off the Lytro style imaging where you can capture and alter the depth after taking a picture, it shows off 3D video. 3D video has been done before but not quite like this. This supposedly captures enough data to create 3D models which, something else Nokia is fond of, you can push into a 3D printer.

Note here about focusing on multiple subjects at the same time. It shouldn’t be too hard, given Nokia’s work on Nokia Smart Camera, to be able to blend in multiple scenes that are in focus.

Reading the comments, it may be that the Aluminium EOS are said to be Nokia Phablets with the Pelican camera (Lytro Style, 16 lens) . Having said that, one of our readers pointed out that it looks like the photo of the aluminium EOS, the guy holding it has silver paint on their hands :/

You may remember a parkour video shot entirely on the Nokia Lumia 920 which involved in some scenes, an octocopter. Here’s a behind the scenes look at how Nokia filmed it.

Message from Nokia:

Hi My Nokia Blog,

We wanted to put the video capture capabilities of the Nokia Lumia 920 to the test – so we filmed Red Bull’s freerunning World Champion Ryan Doyle and traceur (that’s the official title for a male parkour practitioner) Will Sutton showing off their latest tricks. You can see the results for yourself here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aso1ShDhNkw

How we made it happen:

To capture a range of different parkour perspectives, we filmed the two athletes using twelve Nokia Lumia 920s, GoPro harnesses,Octocopter and a hand-held Glidecam. To learn more plus exclusive behind the scenes footage, check out our latest video here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8XjjPFf4bQ

If you like what you see, please feel free to share

Thanks,

Matt B

Nokia Team

The result is clear. With the best low-light performance in a smartphone to date, and the added benefit of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), the Nokia Lumia 920 makes it easy to capture all the action – day or night.

According to reports from WPDang, Microsoft is going to be giving final control over updates to Nokia (and other OEMs). Microsoft will do the basics, i.e. GDR2. Then there’s the handset specific stuff, either the handset itself or the chips inside them, plus any additional firmwares that need testing. This is then processed by carriers for testing.

Now, MS will just do their part, and then the rest is up to the OEM. For Nokia Lumia fans, that’s awesome as there’s no one working as hard on WP as Nokia is. Some say, even more so than MS (which looking at the progress, kinda seems to be the case). It doesn’t seem so good then for other OEMs who may not only not give two hoots about WP, or are possibly notorious for lack or/poor updates.

It still seems it has to pass through carriers. e.g. Telstra with GDR2/Amber for Nokia. It might be good news for some, bad news for others on carriers who are lazy/hesitant with updates. e.g. T-Mobile USA.

When GDR2 is out officially, we’ll probably spend 20 minutes getting a presentation on how to resize tiles again.

Cheers Derrek for the tip!
