Just saw this on TMO during a Uni break. There is this thing called Project N955. The aim of the project is to turn an N9 into an N950. It isn’t the most elegant, or perfect solution, but it works.

HtheB posted his process as follows;

I bought a cheap iPhone bluetooth slide-case, and a cheap N9 case on eBay.

I unscrewed the case to get rid of the iPhone case, to just have the bluetooth keyboard with the slider.

Then, I just made holes in the cheap N9-case and screwed the slider on it.

Turn on the device, pair them and the result: N9 with a keyboard!

So essentially, all this “mod” is, is swapping out the iPhone case on a BT keyboard, for the N9 case. There are still drawbacks, like being able to hide the VKBD while using the BT keyboard, but that is being worked on. There have been posts in the past (don’t remember where I saw them), where the community was trying to get these keyboards made specifically for the N9. At the moment, this is the best solution.

He has posted several photos as well as a video. Take a look below.

At first glance it might just seem to be your standard Lumia 800/900 design. Well yes, but this is so much more refined. These are designed by Jonas Dahnert

First and foremost, let’s look at the specs:

4.3″ screen

720p resolution

12MP PureView

Quadcore

2000mAh battery

1080p video

WP8

(Xenon, Curved display, front facing camera)

The design is very eye catching. I know some say that the N9 seen from last June is an old design now. I’d say there’s some life left in that design which the world deserves to see live in in Nokia’s Lumia smartphones.

It features a curved screen – something that might add extra weight and possibly some vulnerability on a screen this large. Undoubtedly looking gorgeous though, right?

You’ll notice that there are no buttons. It’s much more N9 style. It’s just you and the screen. However, like Windows 8, they do make an appearance (possibly contextually or with a swipe.

Also note how the tiles are more like W8, separated into little categories. There’s also a landscape view. This. I want this. This tile grouping is available somewhat via an app called New Groups.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/01/22/lumiappaday-68-new-group-demoed-on-the-nokia-lumia-800/

The back still has that metal piece though it now proudly says Nokia again. Having said that, it was always good to hear people mention Carl Zeiss optics over and over because of it. We can also see what looks like Xenon flash with LED assist. If only such things could fit in a diminutive frame and be decent.

Although I want to see a new Nokia design (complete one colour, no visible seam, everything a smooth obsidian black, screen only visible when it’s on) this design is seems to be winning the crowd for Nokia. It’s something that you can’t just get back from specs (unless of course you just try to copy these designs from Nokia, which is happening)

The available colours are not so bold, possibly more understated and classy? I’d still like to see that Cyan though.

Androsym have posted “leaked slides” showing off an upcoming WP handset from Nokia, boasting the impressive 41mp PureView technology. To me, it’s quite an ugly design, but some people have said they like the 808′s design so I guess, it is all in the eye of the beholder.

Based on the leaked slides, the specs of this device are;

4.3″ Curved Glass touchscreen with HD display

41mp sensor, Carl Zeiss lens and PureView imaging technology

1080p full HD video recording and Rich Recording Technology

Dual Core processor with Adreno 320 GPU

Windows Phone Operating System

Since WP7, as far as I know, can’t support a sensor that big, I assume the device will be powered by Windows Phone Apollo. Also, note the Windows capacitive button has the new Win8 design style. Compared to the 808, the face of the device is different, sporting a curved front, whilst the back shows us that the flash is separated from the camera module.

The face is lumia but with white background (matching the white of the border) and the aspect ratio, it looks more like an iPhone no? (Well, that black rectangle with curved corners divided equally by two thin bands at the top and bottom type thing)

It was super busy last week and I didn’t think it would be fair for this to get drowned by the other news as these are some really great designs we have for My Dream Nokia.

Mohamed Magdy emailed us last Tuesday about his new concept Nokia phone, called Nokia Snow (Lumi = Snow in Finnish?)

http://vision.recentglance.com/

You might be familiar with his previous work, the Nokia C8 (C7 inspired)?

http://mynokiablog.com/2011/01/22/my-dream-nokia-19-super-sexy-nokia-c8-symbian-phone-concept/

The C8 was obviously a hit design with Nokia’s Lumia 610 and ZTE seemingly taking cues.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/02/20/nokia-c7701-with-android-no-wait-its-from-zte/

MicroHDMI

USB OTG

Active noise cancellation microphone

Stereo speakers

14.1MP

There’s another post to come right after this one, the Nokia tablet.

http://wp.me/p1gHxJ-8z3

The presentation is quite something, the video looks professionally done.

I haven’t had much time to blog lately but, today is no ordinary day.

I woke up in the morning with a feeling that something great was about to happen at MWC. I’m so glad I wasn’t wrong

The announcement of Nokia 808 Pureview is pretty much a dream come true to all of us Symbian/Nokia fans.

Nokia has been a pioneer in must mobile phone advancements, but today’s revelation, in my opinion, surpasses them all; not because of the technology presented (not that it isn’t an amazing achievement), but because it once again places Nokia in the vanguard of mobile device’s technology, in the most mind blowing way!

A few days ago, we were discussing that the competition was just now catching up with what Nokia brought us with the N8.

There’s nothing out there, that can even be compared to Pureview.

If the N8 was a game changer, I don’t really know what to say about this… 41Mp???!! It’s undoubtedly a shocker for everyone.

It’s a delight to see the brand raise once again to its full potential, specially because it is making use of the house’s OS: Symbian.

Personally, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Contrary to what’s been highlighted by part of the blogosphere today, Symbian is by no means an inferior OS. Although I have to agree that as far as UI was concerned the platform was a bit outdated, the arrival of Belle “cleaned” Symbian’s face, and brought to surface the potential withhold in it. It can be an eye pleaser as well but, more than everything, a functional and feature filled, eye pleaser.

It has matured gracefully in the last decade, and is now starting to make use of the newest pieces of tech/engineering available.

The only problem is that the public’s perception of it, is tinted…

I can only hope that advancements of this nature, implemented in the OS, can start changing people’s view of it, and perhaps, who knows, give it (and/or Meego/Maemo) a clean start.

Congrats to Nokia’s team for the amazing work done with the 808 Pureview!

It is most definitely a marvellous device!

PS: 41Mp??!! AMAZING!! I still can’t wrap my mind around this piece of info

My Dream Nokia #43 Lumia Coffee tab was a surprising hit (surprising in a way that I didn’t expect the likes of CNet and co to pick it up)

‘Tris clark’ returns again with another stunning design, addressing the constructive criticisms of his last work.

It is called, the Lumia Espresso.

Erm? YUM!!!! I want this YESTERDAY!

Projection keyboard is interesting Gives you a chance to maintain all the screen real-estate but not have to have extra size for the keyboard. There might be some limitations obviously regarding where it can be used (just on a table perhaps) but I guess that’s when you”d be wanting to do more longer typing? There’s no image of the back so we don’t know what that looks like but it does have 12mp.

NFC is very much welcome – makes great use of cool accessories such as Nokia’s simple pairing Play 360 (that sound fantastic) though the Espresso tablet does have its own set of ‘quad’ speakers. Also pretty neat is wireless charging. You know Ahtisaari and crew have been after removing more moving parts/ports etc, in favour of more streamline designs – wireless charging was one of the conclusions of the Guardian newspaper.

Addressing the constructive criticisms of my original Lumia “coffee” tablet, ive had another crack at coming up with my dream Nokia (what better way to spend my day off!)
The new tab is a touch sleeker with a quad core cpu, more ram and a proper 16:9 screen along with some other bells & whistles like the projected keyboard and quad speakers.

Lumia “Espresso”

1.2GHz quad core cpu

2Gb system ram

10.1″ clearblack AMOLED screen (1280×800)

32/64/128Gb storage

12Mp camera (2Mp front facing camera)

wifi/3g connectivity

quad speakers

nfc

wireless charging

MagicKey, projected keyboard

comes bundled with the Nokia play360 speaker!

‘If’ it was in a video :p Ah, if only it was real and this was actually from Nokia labs.

This one as a few of the others has the N9/Lumia style design but this one reminding me of the N8 too (perhaps the black ends on the blue edges?). This design is by Tristan who wanted to have a bit of fun speculating on what the tablet might look like. Check it out with those Nokia Purity in-earphones. The scattered coffee beans are a nice touch .

The camera isn’t in the middle but in the top left corner (so not impeded I guess when held in landscape with two hands). I’m not sure if those buttons are hardware or appear with the Windows 8 swipe. There’s even a nice picture below where its set in natural surroundings.

About “My Dream Nokia”

I’m sure you’ve dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia device/UI. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don’t you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans .

It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don’t need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.

SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title “My Dream Nokia” and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).

Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.
