It’s been a while since we mentioned anything about Symbian apps so here’s a nice FREE one to keep you busy, Incredible Circus by Developers  INDT is a cute loosely physics based game where you star as a circus stunt performer, your objective is straight-forward: get to the top platform. But as always it’s not that simple, you have to bounce off walls, through barrels, past blindfolded knive throwers and Fire breathers to get there.

Blast through cannons on 32 levels as a bodysuited daredevil. Use elastic bands and trampolines to jump above obstacles or through fire rings, remembering to avoid falling and cracking your helmet. Be on the lookout for fire breathers as you bounce walls on multiple combos in the pursuit of cheers and trophies. The fun goes on as more and more circuses open their doors for this incredible stuntman.

Most importantly, the app itself IS NOT ported form any other OS as far as I can tell, which would explain why it’s wonderfully smooth from start to finish, the design is gorgeous and the graphics are quite nice.

Once you start the game you get a simple enough menu witha  backdrop of our hero/circus performer.

Once you choose to play you can select which ‘circus you want to preform in’ (currently they’re are only two available but it says “Coming soon” on the third so expect some updates.

Of course as is usual you get to the level select, where you can only reach the next level by beating the previous level (which of course constantly get harder and more frustrating).

Drag the stretchy cord down to hurl your fearless stuntman from platform to platform, or into walls if you feel like it…

Your score is calculated based on where you land on the platform (Middle =Perfect 150 points, to the side = 80 points, at the edges = 30 points), try to get as many perfects as possible in a row to get a multiplication bonus!

Once you reach the final platform you receive a trophy depending on how well you did (Gold/Silver/Bronze).

Over all Incredible Circus is a entertaining app (possibly addictive), at first I expected an Angry birds rip-off so I pushed back trying it out; but once I played around on it I’d say it’s a mix between “Cut the Rope” and “Doodle Jump” with an interesting twist of it’s own. Definitely a game worth trying out, especially since it’s free!

When you’ve got Nokia Play To installed on your phone, streaming is very quick and simple. To start, open the mobile application. Select the DLNA system you want to connect to, choose the photo, video, or music track you want to play, and that’s all there is to it. You can also browse the media content stored in your phone with DLNA player devices, like a PlayStation 3, Blu-ray player or a home theatre system – it’s just as easy. Unfortunately, the new CNN app appears to be only for the E7 at this time but as with all free apps on Ovi store, all you have to do is login to your account , select the E7 as your device and download the sis file to your pc and install according to our previous post:

Nokia did this also with Real Golf 2011. Do you reckon Nokia are testing PC App download? Would be very much useful and needed when downloading huge games (especially if you don’t have WiFi/Mobile Internet/limited bandwidth mobile internet). Nitish says this was notified in the PR1.1 update which I obviously missed.

It’s a one click process as it downloads and installs the app automatically.

It’s been a while since I last posted, for numerous reasons of course, but now with a bit of time on my hands, I figured I’d post a couple videos supplied to us by  Jim on a few of the MeeGo UX’s currently being worked on by dev teams around the world.

First up is a video of XBMC being demo-ed on the Lenovo ideapad running an undisclosed version of MeeGo. XBMC is a cross platform media player with some of their work being seen in high-profile devices like the original Xbox. While I’ve never been one to consider flashy visuals over an easy and functional interface, this video here definitely deserves a mention. Video after the break.

This app has been available for download from Ovi Store for a few days now and let me tell you that it’s awesome!

It is a really slick useful application for UK train travellers. You can check train times as well as buy train tickets but it goes so much further in making a very smooth and visually appealing interface to interact with. Over checking the browser version, this is leaps and bounds in speed and usability since it’s mobile (thumb input) focused and also uses very little data (no constantly clicking a new page).

To start off you can make a new journey or click on previously searched journeys. The latter is very useful as so many times I’m checking the same route and find it annoying that I have to type in the journey details again and again. Here it’s all saved (including outbound dates and times).

Entering new details is very easy.

When you search for a station you can scroll down the list names, or with the finger friendly scroll bar. Most likely though you’ll enter in with the new portrait QWERTY keyboard. Very useful again is that the app remembers previously entered stations and these appear at the top so you don’t have to keep entering that station name.

The entire app also works in landscape and as such you do get a landscape QWERTY too.

You can change your journey options by sliding the icons for Journey type, class, age and rail card available.Now click Set Dates. By default it’ll choose today’s date but clicking on “Today” brings up the calendar for future outbound journeys.

When entering time you can slide the switch to “Depart After” a certain time or to “Arrive by” a certain time. A numeric keypad appears when you type the time in. If you know the return date, click this and you can enter the return dates and times. Otherwise, you can leave it blank.

Click “Get Prices”. Here you’ll get possible ticket options of either the standard Return or cheaper combination tickets. On this particular journey, two singles would save you £1.75 but on others this number can be much more. In the video you’ll note a £10 difference.

Clicking on either ticket gives you a journey list showing departure and arrival times. Some routes have a number next to them which indicates how many changes you’ll have to make on the route.

You’ll also note that when scrolling over each journey you’ll get prices listed below of which you can slide across to see what you’d like to pay.

Clicking on a particular journey gives you more info about these changes – which stations that is at and of course general journey details including the train service (e.g. Arriva/Virgin etc) and journey duration. The journey list is blurred in the background.

If you’re happy with a particular route, select it. You can view the trains on which your ticket will be valid on or proceed directly to purchase. The former is useful as sometimes you’ll be given tickets which you are only allowed to travel at certain times on. e.g. off peak.

When proceeding to purchase you’ll be shown a review of your journey details, prices as well as info on whether your ticket can be a mobile one or whether you have to pick it up at the station.

You can pay by Direct Debit or Credit Card. You’re told you only have to enter the details once and later enter the security number when you use it again at another time. I don’t know how this works for this app as I have not used the buy option yet. I’m assuming your card will appear in payment options.

One of the recent creations from the people over at Nokia Beta Labs yet again helps us to solve an issue that I’m sure we have all had at one point or another…”Why won’t my phone connect….AAAGGGHHHH”.

“Connectivity Analyzer” from Nokia Beta Labs does exactly what it says on the tin, it tries to figure out well (or not so well) your phone connects to either a Wireless LAN in your home or somewhere else, or Packet Data connections through the mobile network of your choice.

It’s a fantastic twitter client, especially for the price (FREE). It’s not as functional as gravity (e.g. no direct picture upload, though I upload mainly from gallery) but you certainly get a lot out of it for nothing. The only main things I miss are:

• crucial KINETIC scrolling. It’s non existent here.
• “In Reply To” function to see the context of a tweet

Otherwise. Highly recommended download.

Here’s a screenshot run through including some bits not shown in the video.

First Log In requires signing in to twitter via the browser.

Trill then starts to fetch your tweets. You’re presented with this screen. At the top you have the label and you can click to switch screens or swipe across the page. There’s also the icon to write new tweets.

Tapping on a tweet gives you a host of options via finger friendly and colourful icons

Options bar – with Go To you can quickly switch between timeline/replies/DM etc, write new tweets, search etc

When you search you get this cute little bird chirping away. It’s a nice distraction from the otherwise blank load.

And search results are all within the app. You can save searches and next time you search, that’s listed below the search bar.

This is cool. Not shown in video. When you click someone’s tweets and they have tags, you can browse those tags.

Another thing missed in the video is profile viewing. Here’s Jon Choo. You can scroll down and the page will fill with just their tweets.

Final thing missed in video was opening links. This is very nice, you have the option to view the Full or Mobile Adapted version. This could then be saved in settings for default action

All of this of course works in Landscape

It’s really enjoyable (I love Air Hockey at arcades!) and great for those short distractions. It’s well worth a download.

The only things I’d like to see is the option for 2 player mode with multitouch support of course (though that would rule out S60 5th users).

Oh it’s meant to be played in portrait but was recorded in landscape.

You’ve got two price points with Air Hockey. An Advert-supported FREE game or £3.00 (variable by country) ad-free.

Above was the ad-supported version and you’ll note the presence of adverts (which you can skip or click to open an advert page). You’ll also need to have an internet connection. You don’t have to view the ads, just press skip.

9 homescreens on the N900 – all accessible in one swipe

The original concept was not just for homescreens but also for your apps.

Whilst nothing of the sort has appeared on Maemo, Thanks to Offscreen Technologies, lucky Symbian owners (do you think it’s confusing not to name particular variations of Symbian, i.e. ^1, ^3) can try out a new grid style menu with Grid Touch. At the moment it performs horizontal and vertical page scrolling, which by comments of the N900 post would be the best way to go about it as the 9 direction would certainly confuse.

Offscreen Technologies have gone all out with this, providing a new look status bar, search bar with new portrait keyboard, instant grid overview look

What’s totally most awesome is that Offscreen Technologies are giving this excellent app away for free at the Ovi Store! Vaihab from TheHandheldBlog has a great demo video to share.
