So with MWC just around the corner (Feb 27th) rumors have started to surface about what Nokia might unveil there, according to a source at forbes Nokias presence at MWC will be in the shape of:

run an unusual software feature normally found only on high-end smartphones.

Way to leave our minds roam freely in the cursed Rumor/dream land, well we’ll try our best, as far as I know there isn’t a specific software feature that lays the claim to “high-end smartphones” of course you have Voice Command/ Siri but that is present on all ranges of smartphones and even some dumb-phones. Of course just to add to the agonizing speculation we have no idea which OS this ‘special software feature’ is destined for! Could it be a new Feature phone (S40?) or maybe a low end S^3 device? possibly even a low end WP considering how all the Tango rumors have lead us to believe that Tango will bring increased support for cheaper lower range phones (smaller screens, no camera required….).

Personally I think it’s either going to be a dedicated Voice control system that can take apple head on (except for the fact that it wont set you back 600 dollars- come to think of it that would be a killer idea) or maybe some sort of swipe Ui on Symbian 3 devices? (now that Belles rolled out they can work on making it more amazing rather than having a million bugs to fix). Or possibly a extremely advanced gesture controlled screen that could be fully functional without the need for any buttons at all (extending on the N9s swipe interface)??

What do you think?

A nifty looking weather widget was just leaked from the official Belle firmware (Kudos to the guys over at HDblog.it) I think this is the widget for the official Weather/Map application (similar to the my position widget which also only works on on Belle); If my Google translate isn’t rusty you’ll need to be running a E6 with the leaked/hacked version of Belle then just install the .sis file provided at the source (sadly the widget will not work on Symbian Anna/earlier; and probably won’t work on other Belle devices due to screen ratio issues). Personally this is one widget that I’ve been wanting for some time, till now I’ve been using Accuweathers home screen widget but I find it a tad bit buggy, plus this looks loads better.

(On a side note I don’t think this is available for any other Belle releases no? I have yet to see it on any of my N8s CFWs; hopefully it’ll be available quite soon)

I guess the people at Nokia U.S. were a bit over-excited about the news they were supposed to release later on today, about what most of us had probably guessed; the Nokia 710 entering the US market (Via T-Mobile).

According to the leak the 710 is set to hit stores on Jan 11th with a very reasonable pricing of $49.99 with contract OFC, but what most of us never saw coming was the incorporation of a 4G antenna inside the 710, making it the first Nokia 4G phone to be officially availble in the US (Thanks to Matti in the comments section I also found out that the N9 as well as the 800 are also capable of the fake 4G/HSPA speeds), as well as one of the first Mango running 4G capable devices (Other: HTC Radar).

The Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to be available at T-Mobile retail stores, select dealers and retailers nationwide, and online at http://www.t-mobile.com starting Jan. 11. The Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to cost $49.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate card, with a two-year service agreement and qualifying Classic voice and data plan. For more information, visit http://www.t-mobile.com/lumia.

The 710 should hit shelves preloaded with all of the stock Nokia apps (Nokia drive, Nokia Mix radio, the Nokia exclusive ESPN app…) as well as Netflix mobile TV and many more. However according to the press release the only color made to be available is the Black battery case, which is completely fine by me as the picture above looks absolutely SEXY!!!

Full press release available below:

T-Mobile Brings Nokia Lumia 710 to the U.S.

Nokia and T-Mobile deliver a leading entry-level Windows Phone experience to the nearly 150 million Americans still to make the transition to smartphones.

BELLEVUE, Wash., and SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Dec. 14, 2011 — T-Mobile USA, Inc. and Nokia today announced the upcoming availability of the Nokia Lumia 710, the first Windows Phone from Nokia in the United States. Targeted at the nearly 150 million Americans who haven’t purchased their first smartphones, the 4G-capable Nokia Lumia 710 delivers high-performance hardware, Nokia’s best social and Internet experience, and access to popular smartphone applications and services from Windows Phone Marketplace.

Running on America’s Largest 4G Network™, the Nokia Lumia 710 benefits from the unique people-first approach of Windows Phone, bringing together all interactions with family and friends in People Hub. The Nokia Lumia 710 also provides one-click access to popular services, such as Netflix, T-Mobile TV with mobile HD1 and a leading mobile Web experience with Internet Explorer® Mobile, Bing™ Search with voice activation and Local Scout for locally relevant search results. The smartphone also brings access to signature Nokia experiences, such as Nokia Drive for voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation and ESPN for exclusive sports content.

“We’re excited to team with Nokia in bringing its first Windows Phone to the U.S. with the elegantly designed Nokia Lumia 710,” said Cole Brodman, chief marketing officer, T-Mobile USA. “Windows Phone offers a compelling mobile OS choice for people who want a smartphone built around them, their family and friends. We expect it to play a more prominent role in our lineup and marketing efforts in 2012.”

Today, people are increasingly upgrading to smartphones, and many are doing so for the first time. According to the NPD Group, U.S. smartphone sales reached 59 percent in the third quarter 2011, an increase of 13 percent since third quarter 2010. With an increasing demand for smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 710 offers a compelling experience aimed at addressing the needs of the nearly 150 million people in the U.S. who have yet to upgrade to their first smartphones.

“Our research shows nearly everybody in the U.S. wants a smartphone, but many believe they can’t afford it,” Brodman said. “That’s where T-Mobile shines. Our Unlimited Value and Monthly4G plans make it more affordable than ever to step up to mobile data on our 4G network.”

”The Nokia Lumia 710 is the perfect first-time smartphone: a well-designed product that delivers the most compelling Windows Phone experience in its price range and with access to great content and thousands of applications,” said Chris Weber, president, Nokia Americas. “This is the perfect first Nokia Lumia experience and the start of our re-entry into the U.S. smartphone market.”

Available in a black or white finish, the Nokia Lumia 710 features a 3.7-inch ClearBlack WVGA scratch-resistant display for outstanding outdoor viewing and a Qualcomm 1.4 GHz Snapdragon™ processor providing speedy access to entertainment and information on-the-go. It also features a 5-megapixel camera with Nokia’s leading camera technology, enabling people to take pictures in almost any light condition and share on social networks in seconds. With the most integrated work-life solution of any mobile platform via the Windows Phone Office Hub and an interactive mobile gaming experience via Xbox LIVE®, the Nokia Lumia 710 is the complete all-round first-time smartphone experience.

Just from it’s code-name Champagne you get the feeling that this is something special, not your run of the mill midrange phone, I want it to be the flagship, which is why I actually believe that the 900 is indeed the champagne.

Which brings my second point, just because the champagne and the 900 showed up together doesn’t mean their different phones, the same thing happened with the Lumia 800, where it appeared on The occasional gamer under two different names although it was the same phone (once as Searay and once as Lumia 800), which could mean that the 719 is a completely different phone.

Now if my reasoning is correct we could expect the 719 to be a mid-range phone with specs between those of the 710 and the 800 (possibly closer to the lower end of the spec range?), Perhaps the same 3.7 inch screen with a 5~8 MP camera and a decent battery?

What do you think? let us know down below

Big exceptions in this case as an image that popped up on Symbianlatino.com appears to show the future road map for Symbian displaying to upcoming updates named “Carla & Donna”

The image source claims that it was on display during Nokias Devoloper Day In mexico.

The translation off Google (hardly reliable is):

“Symbian Carla:

8.0 Browser

Dolby soundround

NFC

Best Widgets

Symbian Donna:

Exclusive Dual core Equipment”

Symbianlatino states that Carla is set for late 2012 or early 2013, running on much more capable devices, perhaps the N8 Successor?? It also states that Symbian Carla will be available to ALL current S^3 devices, while Symbian Donna would be exclusive for Dual core devices. It’s also stated that Donna is most probably the LAST of the symbian updates and the end of an era.

Staring at blurrycam images isn’t good for you, but if you look hard enough at the phones displayed in the last column to the right under Donna it appears to be a candybar with rounded edges (similar to C7) but with 4 applications per row in menu like Meego. I don’t know maybe I’m imagining things…

*note: A while back on the Symbian Wikipedia page under “Version history” Symbian Carla was indeed there beneath “Belle” but if you check know it’s gone, is this nokias leak control?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbian#Version_history

Update: I couldn’t find a clearer image but since this event was only yesterday a couple more should pop-up sooner or later, however I did stumble on a image from a developers conference in Brazil where it showed that there were future updates coming after Belle, but it only showed a “Under Construction Symbol”- at least we know that there’s some basis to this.

The Facebook applications seems to have notification support FINALLY!!! how does anyone make a Facebook app that doesn’t even support notifications??? Groups or Pages and Events I might understand but notifications are the core of Facebook. The other Widget for twittter appears to have shortcuts for New tweets, Direct messages and search which is good.

Note that the shortcuts at the bottom show Facebook & twitter as separate applications; not grouped under “Nokia Social’ which is how they are on the current range of S^3 phones. Pure speculation on my part but it’s possible that Nokia Social has been completely scrapped and these are brand new dedicated applications for their respective social networks. Fingers Crossed.

*Note: none of these applications are present on the leaked belle version for the N8, however I don’t know if they come pre-installed on the 700 & 603 (can someone please confirm).

The other thing I spotted was a message saying that Symbian belle would soon be available for Nokia X7, Nokia E6, and the 500.

What this means exactly I have no idea, did they leave out the E7, N8 and C6-01 on purpose?? or are their updates just delayed? It’s possible that these devices are scheduled to get the updates first since they were all launched with symbian Anna meaning that there are no devices still running stock S^3 making it easier to mass update.

Rant starts here:

Why Belle hasn’t been released yet is beyond me, it has obviously been ready for quite a while (before the launch of the 700 or the 603) and if the leaked version was that stable I can only imagine that the official is beyond ready (the stable version is INDEED ready and was showcased at Nokia world). I think it’s simply to promote the sales of the 700 & 603 as in my opinion they don’t have that “Awesome factor” about them nothing that makes them stand out like the N8s’ camera or the E7s’ Keyboard, so it could be that Belle is the selling point for the devices.

I went to the Nokia store here in Jordan and when I asked the floor manager what the selling point for the 700 was he said “it runs Symbian Belle”, at which point I gave him my N8 which has the leaked Belle on it and asked him would you honestly tell me to buy the 700; obviously he didn’t answer.

Point is that Belle IS indeed ready, I know alot of you are going to say “you knew what you were getting when you bought the phone….” true, but that doesn’t explain why I should wait for something that’s being delayed for no clear reason. To me it seems to be the same as when Anna was released it was obviously ready for the N8 and E7 as the newly purchased phones where shipping with it, yet it took almost a month for the update to be available for the early adopters, and the fact that the update STILL hasn’t reached some regions (disregard the carrier locked phones as they delay it to customize the SW sometimes) but a company as large as Nokia shouldn’t have to trickle out the updates over 4 months, iOS updates are usually available to everyone at once at a Pre-Defined date, why can’t Nokia do the same?

End Rant.

Snap, what do we have hear then, it looks like Elop might be a master in leaking a device on purpose but he sure isnt one in keeping a device under wraps. What we have here is the first ina group of devices that will run the next version of Symbian called Symbian Belle. The press shots of this device look exactly like the prototypes Jay and Harangue have posted and with the leak being this early it seem to confirm that a possible Symbian Belle device for release this year Nokia World 2011 in October. (Other confirmation of Symbian Belle from Nokia.com Nokia 700 profile, showing 7.4 browser , 7.3 is Anna)

Again to recap some of the rumoured specs of this device:

Symbian Belle (didnt expect to see it on device this year to be hones, where is my ANNA )

1 GHZ processor (on a mid range device like this ? strange)

5 megapixel camera (come on Nokia you can do better than this)

3.2 inch AMOLED screen (too small)

NFC

Now again these are all just rumours but they seem to be about what we expect for the type of device, although we are slightly miffed about a GHz processor on what looks like another mid range Nokia device.

RANT

When I first saw the pictures I wanted to restrain myself to any judgement until I actually saw some decent pictures, I was especially intrigued by Symbian Belle being an N8 user, so we when I saw these press pictures I just burst out laughing I mean seriously Nokia you come up with an UI on the N9 that your haters such “Engadget and most american blogs” loved and then you also come up with this !!!!!

I mean a poor mans copy of HTC sense is no way of selling a phone. If this was sat next to a HTC device in a phone store there is no question that HTC model will sell way better.

A tip to Nokia if you are going to copy someone, copy it properly and dont come up with half baked stuff, I mean we know you are good enough just stare at the N9 long enough and you will know what I mean.

thanks to mprince for the heads up !
