Apparently something interesting has been spotted. I don’t know how legit this is but this has appeared on wpbench. These pics were kindly sent to us by Stipan who was using wpbench on his Nokia Lumia 800.

On that he found listed, the Nokia PureLambda, Nokia Phi, Nokia Pure Phi and Nokia Alpha – with the Nokia PureLambda on OS 8.0.9842.

OS 8.0 is Apollo. What could PureLambda be? PureView? It’s too early isn’t it? Even Nokia themselves hinted it might take a year longer if they waited to bring PureView to Lumia rather than bring it out there and then on the 808.

What do you reckon? Is Nokia on track for their Apollo devices? Anyone grasping on the wisps of hope that they might bring PureView to Lumia too?

Thanks Stipan for the tip and screenshots!

I read the following stories on several other sites; but wasn’t sure it warranted a mention due to the fact that not a single solid name/source was mentioned in them- all that’s listed is “un-named source, Mobile executive, Carrier company…) so of course it could be a load of bull..

I’ll start with the obviously ridiculous one; and if this is indeed a true quote then this mysterious “Carrier Executive” really has no idea how business works:

Four of the major cellphone carriers in Europe say Nokia’s Windows Phone-powered Lumia smartphones would be “would be much easier to sell” if it ran the Android operating system

Say Whaaatttt??? Seriously? I’d like to know what went through this guys mind before he came up with that, maybe it was dinner time, maybe this quote was taken during happy hour at a pub.. To be clear I DO NOT have a business major or any sort of economic degree; but I’m pretty sure that offering the same OS that’s being offered with over a 150 different phone models, by over 20 different OEMs doesn’t really help your chances of selling. Sure the OS gets alot of publicity but the main thing going for Nokia right now is how it stands out amongst other WP; slap on Android and what do you have? a single core phone that can barely run Froyo- is this guy serious?

Everyone knows that Nokia aren’t exactly the best at making the Latest high-end spec phones- which is why WP is the way to go, and as At&t have proven if you really want to sell WP you can, if they complain that it’s not selling I’m pretty sure that’s just lazy marketing from their part- Microsoft has been pushing WP all over the place and I’m sure if a carrier really wanted to try and sell WP they would have no problems. The main issue is that they’re just too lazy to bother pushing a new OS which isn’t the Lumias/WPs fault it’s the carriers own fault.

And besides don’t both the Lumia 800 & the 710 top most of the selling charts for carries in Europe?

Ridiculous claim Number two:

“no one comes into the store and asks for a Windows smartphone.”

Which once again is because no carrier has bothered to try and market it (list one of the multiple stories where phone stores have guided people AWAY from WP devices towards an iPhone or a Droid).

Once again it’s not a fact that WP Can’t sell it all comes down to the fact that Carriers DON’T want to bother selling it- and then apparently complain that nobody wants the OS- Direct point:

Another problem it seems is that stores aren’t keen to sell the handsets to consumers. According to the report, Lumia handsets weren’t prominently displayed at a France Telecom store in Paris, with the sales clerk offering shoppers iPhones first, then Android handsets.

And the grand finale that really just proves that whoever this “carrier Representative” is has no idea what the hell he’s talking about (similar to point #1):

“If the Lumia with the same hardware came with Android in it and not Windows, it would be much easier to sell,” he added.

Should I even bother? 512 Ram and 1.4 GHZ processor with a wVGA (217 ppi)screen running Android..Hmmmmmm let’s put that in perspective the HTC one S (not the top of the line X- but the S) which is priced close to the same range (a bit higher depending where you look) has a dual core 1.5ghz processor with 1 GB ram and a similar 4.3inch screen but with 256ppi; and that’s not the flagship device while the Lumia is…Imagine pitting it against the One X on the same table Quad-core 720p screen; I can practically see the Android Lumias flying off the shelves.

So all in all what on earth was this “Source” smoking?

Sources 1, 2, 3 - thanks to everyone who tipped this.

The MS Nerd has been tweeting some Nokia related tweets regarding some future devices. These are just rumours (the most recent thing we have posted about was that FreeTimeMachine thing

First:

A PureView Lumia Clear Black HD display with Qualcomm’s super fast S4 chip. Now you might think this was merely based on the render seen last week, but apparently not.

Very interesting <s>#</s>rumor: Nokia prepping flagship WP8 device for Verizon this fall with PureView camera & ClearBlack HD display on MSM8960.

https://twitter.com/#!/MS_nerd

PureView but NOT based on the 808′s super huge sensor, but on the N8′s sensor. We’ve been expecting a N8 Nokia WP for a while but did not expect one AFTER PureView device. That’s not to scoff about. The N8 is still regarded as the best camera phone (only to be beaten by Nokia themselves). Whilst the likes of the HTC One X and iPhone might outdo current Lumia, testing from AAS and Engadget show the N8 is still the one to beat.

It should mean that the lump is less substantial and more manageable and that it could possibly appear much sooner.

Could this be the Nokia Prodigy?

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/03/06/superphone-nokia-prodigy-and-acdc-with-windows-phone-8-later-this-year/

Last we heard, these Apollo phones are rumoured to be ‘incredible’ but that’s based on the info by a N9/MeeGo fan at Nokia.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/03/26/nokia-apollo-phones-to-be-incredible-and-unbelievable-more-harmattan-updates/

Anyway, next rumour:

A landscape QWERTY slider. Hurrah. Something you guys have been asking for too. Would you like this in flat slide or a return to E7/N9/N97?

And another neat <s>#</s>rumor: Nokia is apparently making landscape-QWERTY slider with 4 inch WVGA screen for Sprint as well, also on the MSM8960.

https://twitter.com/#!/MS_nerd

This will also be 4 inches, based on S4 so very fast, but coming to Sprint.

Will it come to AT&T? Apparently this will be a carrier exclusive.

I’m hearing Nokia will continue ‘rolling thunder’ with per-carrier exclusive designs in the United States, i.e. unique phones.

https://twitter.com/#!/MS_nerd

Nokia World is coming this September, most likely coinciding with the Fall release of Windows 8 devices. Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Nokia’s Tablet and ‘Super Phone’? The premise of something amazing happening sounds likely but I’m too jaded not to be slightly doubtful either.

MS Nerd is not only an MS fan. He likes ICS and thinks it’s beautiful.

Androsym have posted “leaked slides” showing off an upcoming WP handset from Nokia, boasting the impressive 41mp PureView technology. To me, it’s quite an ugly design, but some people have said they like the 808′s design so I guess, it is all in the eye of the beholder.

Based on the leaked slides, the specs of this device are;

4.3″ Curved Glass touchscreen with HD display

41mp sensor, Carl Zeiss lens and PureView imaging technology

1080p full HD video recording and Rich Recording Technology

Dual Core processor with Adreno 320 GPU

Windows Phone Operating System

Since WP7, as far as I know, can’t support a sensor that big, I assume the device will be powered by Windows Phone Apollo. Also, note the Windows capacitive button has the new Win8 design style. Compared to the 808, the face of the device is different, sporting a curved front, whilst the back shows us that the flash is separated from the camera module.

Phone Arena is reporting on a little poster for possible upcoming Nokia phones powered by Windows Phone 8.

Perhaps, a little too late for April Fools? The images could easily be faked. It is apparently just a template.

I thought Nokia was sticking to just Nokia (without the connecting people bit?). I can’t tell what part of the phone, design wise, is apparently breaking limits. It might just be a placeholder for the actual WP8 phone.

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Alleged-Nokia-poster-template-reveals-Windows-Phone-8-branding_id28725

Although there is something interesting.

We’ve seen a similar design to this before.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/03/28/new-nokia-phone/

Which was actually a handset that appeared in a very early ‘leak’

The bright multicoloured bezel screams of the youthful 610.

Cheers ‘USER’ for the tip.

I haven’t had much time to blog lately but, today is no ordinary day.

I woke up in the morning with a feeling that something great was about to happen at MWC. I’m so glad I wasn’t wrong

The announcement of Nokia 808 Pureview is pretty much a dream come true to all of us Symbian/Nokia fans.

Nokia has been a pioneer in must mobile phone advancements, but today’s revelation, in my opinion, surpasses them all; not because of the technology presented (not that it isn’t an amazing achievement), but because it once again places Nokia in the vanguard of mobile device’s technology, in the most mind blowing way!

A few days ago, we were discussing that the competition was just now catching up with what Nokia brought us with the N8.

There’s nothing out there, that can even be compared to Pureview.

If the N8 was a game changer, I don’t really know what to say about this… 41Mp???!! It’s undoubtedly a shocker for everyone.

It’s a delight to see the brand raise once again to its full potential, specially because it is making use of the house’s OS: Symbian.

Personally, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Contrary to what’s been highlighted by part of the blogosphere today, Symbian is by no means an inferior OS. Although I have to agree that as far as UI was concerned the platform was a bit outdated, the arrival of Belle “cleaned” Symbian’s face, and brought to surface the potential withhold in it. It can be an eye pleaser as well but, more than everything, a functional and feature filled, eye pleaser.

It has matured gracefully in the last decade, and is now starting to make use of the newest pieces of tech/engineering available.

The only problem is that the public’s perception of it, is tinted…

I can only hope that advancements of this nature, implemented in the OS, can start changing people’s view of it, and perhaps, who knows, give it (and/or Meego/Maemo) a clean start.

Congrats to Nokia’s team for the amazing work done with the 808 Pureview!

It is most definitely a marvellous device!

PS: 41Mp??!! AMAZING!! I still can’t wrap my mind around this piece of info
