If you go on Nokia Mexico’s site, you will notice that they have some instructions for updating to Symbian Belle/Nokia Belle, with the N8 as the demo device.

http://www.nokia.com.mx/aplicaciones-mapas-y-mas/nokiabelle

There aren’t any dates here but it does look like the Nokia Vietnam Belle update page that disappeared.

DM who tipped this in also has a link that claims everything is still good to go for Feb 8. The blog has a screenshot from Nokia Care Spain.

In similar news, ICEman tipped in this link which is not yet working (and he notes this). He says 7th of February, which is today (Source: @khotabychua).

Nokia Belle will be available for N8, E7, X7, E6, C6-01, C7 & Oro starting 7th of February!
Nokia 500 will have to wait a bit. By default it’ll have max. 4 homescreens, and a special version of Angry Birds

http://europe.nokia.com/nokia-belle-update-availability

Cheers DM and ICEman for the tip!

Here’s a look at IDC’s smartphone sales estimates for 2011. Notice, above in Q4 2011 that even if Nokia managed to keep up the same highs of 28.1M of Q4 2010, Nokia would still remain third.

The question is, given the portfolio and brand recognition of the competition versus Nokia’s portfolio in 2011, does anyone legitimately think it would have been possible for Nokia to maintain or even increase beyond 28.1M per quarter? What exactly were sales like just prior to Feb 11? (Q1 2011 was 24m btw).

Apple’s growth has been amazing, but Samsung’s is even more so. Samsung is pretty much becoming the new Nokia. Sammy can make the iPhone clones for those who want an iPhone but can’t get one (gaining sales and brand recognition) and also make their own, more unique phones that push boundaries elsewhere. As a geek who loves specsheets as much as the next geek, Samsung is ticking a lot of boxes.

http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS23299912

In terms of yearly sales, Nokia’s 100M from 2010 is still yet to be eclipsed. But with an ever growing market and more consumers buying smartphones, it’s highly likely this will be breached by both Samsung and Apple in 2012.

Source: idc

As much as I’d like it to be, it doesn’t look real to me. The only thing I might say is that consumers might find it confusing expecting WP and getting Nokia Belle given the branding with Nokia Lumia, although it could be advantageous too having a much loved design in a different choice of OS again.

The screen looks all wrong though. The angle is very off like some bad advertising agency has just sploshed Belle from July 2011 onto what IS the Nokia Lumia 800 hence just hiding the buttons.

Furthermore, the mighty ElMu said it was true. So I guess that means it’s not.

Here’s an image you might have seen flying about yesterday.

Apparently this was taken at Nokia World. In that slide we can see today’s Windows Phone handset, but along side that we have tomorrow’s designs.

From left to right:

We have what seems to be that tiny square (reminds me of that windows device that turned out to be a name tag)

Then there’s a buttonless device

There’s a blackberry style portrait keyboard thing going on there (although there is already portrait slider). More interesting is the aspect ratio of the screen.

Back to today’s style with buttons

Another larger buttonless device

A tablet.

I’m not quite sure about a Windows Phone tablet when we’re expecting Windows 8. Some people have speculated that they might be the same thing when Apollo arrives. When Microsoft introduced Windows 8, they said it would go on everything, but always conveniently never said the phone.

Given the metro panoramic nature of Windows Phone it is something that actually would translate extremely well to a larger screen tablet.

The portrait QWERTY monoblock would be interesting. It’s still a useful form factor which still has room for innovation. Nokia is probably the next iconic user of this form factor after blackberry, though their Eseries do not (and never had) have the same recognition in terms of branding. It will be interesting to see how apps would translate to this screen ratio – and how in general windows phone could work in a more square screen.

Well that was quick, I just posted about Nokia teasing the white Lumia 800 on facebook; after which Slashgear just released a hands-on with the Unicorn White Chocolate Beauty.

This ought to cure anyone with Xerostomia *DROOL* the phone appears glossier than the other colors which are more of a smudge proof Matte, it also appears shinier; but you can’t deny that’s one good looking phone; according to slashgear it’s set to be released sometime THIS month; so for all of you holding out on the Lumias, your patience has been rewarded (Maybe they can time it to match #LumiAppADay Number 100)

HOWEVER, of course it is important to note that this is only a slight indication that sales are at least going well as we don’t know how much has been moved. Surur notes that the first shipments is usually the largest. Either way, where ever the Nokia Lumia 800 is launching, it seems to be selling well enough to deplete stock.

Here’s an interesting video I saw last week.

Since there’s a growing meme that Nokias are invincible some kids decided to test that out by throwing a Nokia E63 from the second storey of their school building over the basket ball court and onto the oval. The E63 flies down recording all the action. Does it break? Crash? To their surprise it continues with the recording. ‘It’s still going!”

What super hero would your Nokia be?
