he was proved wrong many times, he just want to defend the windows phone that it don't need multicores to perform well and MS is right by not making it supporting multicores (and then they realise that they can't compete without up to date SoCs)

(when I say running 0.5 seconds at 1GHz, I mean the other 0.5 seconds is spent sleeping (power save mode), compared to 1 second at 500MHz)

A modern CPU is more efficient per clockcycle, so there is already an advantage in improving architectures, and more able to switch between sleep and execution modes quickly, on top of needing less time to do the same task, so in the end running 0.5 seconds at 1 GHz is more efficient in terms of battery life than running 1 second at 500 MHz, while getting the same amount (or more) of work done, in half the time. Win win win.

(that's outside of the argument of wether you need dual core or what a good clockspeed is)

I have a question for you all:

Remember when stephen elop asked about the dual-core processors in the smartphones, he said that it's just a waste of battery lyf,
what i want to ask is that in ashas they have given 1ghz processor to an underrated software which can't even multi task isn't that a waste of battery life, the processor of 600mhz was more than enough in those phones bt why here Elop thought that it wud increase the battery life.

I dont think we disagree so much. For instance I agree (as I mentioned earlier) that tablets are more important to MS than phones. Possible hybrid devices (mounting the phone to a lap top, tv, I reserve the right to change my opinion earliest, when I see working beta of WP8 (ontime).

I could go on, but I'll leave it this time. Accompanied with a pint it could be even more fun ;)

Hi Jiipee, the answer is pretty much what Dave already said. WP7 and the upcoming WP8 are of paramount importance to MSFT and there's absolutely no question to doubt that based on what's going on with Office getting versions on another platforms. I never attacked your opinion or the news itself in my comment (even though the snarky tone was there), only the editorial by Karo Hämäläinen. The fact that Karo Hämäläinen is such a prestigious journalist makes it even worse, the "risks" he writes about and the tone that editorial was written was not great journalism.

Oh, and I am a native Finnish speaker so there's nothing lost in translation here.
