Recommend an App

On top of apps we’re finding ourselves, we’re also always getting suggestions on some great apps to check out and maybe review. But they’re often spread out over so many posts that unfortunately some of those recommendations gets missed. I’m even worse with email that if I don’t respond to something there and then, I often miss it.

So I thought I’d put together a page that you guys can put apps you wish to recommend to us to either share or to demo ourselves. You can be a fan of the app, something you’ve just heard about or even the developer.

This page will be updated around a monthly basis and we’ll strike through the ones that have been done. Even if we don’t get to review or demo them ourselves, I think the list might be helpful to other readers too.

It will be split into three main categories:

  • MeeGo
  • Symbian
  • Windows Phone
Please mention what platform the app is on when you’re recommending an app.

Thanks all!

    For Symbian :

    1. Brightlight –> a simply useful flashlight app, only for those who have led flash though

    2. Opera Mini –> barely uncomparable browser. Fast, bandwith friendly, less than 1 MB space needed on your phone.

    3. myExplorer –> for exchanging files with computers through wifi without any client needed on the computers.

    4. aNySymb –> this little tool helps you to get the cool emoji(i.e. Ģ☺☺Ď ♏♡®π¡♎ĝ) that usually used by those BB users(Android and iOS included). You’ll need to change your default font though.

All of them are freeware of course ;)

The list is still growing there’s like at least one new app every week at N9-apps.com. I’m very excited about owning the N9. Been waiting patiently for it since the I got my n97.

Oh and there’s some paid apps in the list aswell.

Had the money saved up but unforseen stuff caused me to spend it.

    Still deciding on a colour!!
Black, Cyan or White? (leaning towards black because 16 gb ain’t near enough)

N9 was not offcially released in my country but I can get the black and cyan one easily but there’s still no sign of the white one.

    List & Things Free
Great little app that can have memo style list with reminders….you can pin the tasks at hand with different settings for the front and back tile…plus its FREE

    …Honey I got it
Its a stupid name but very useful…its the same as List & Things Free but very easy to use and managed
Windows…has both front and back tiles, plus reminders…its 99 cents in the market but still cheap for setting reminders and things to do..the live tiles are more eye candy and pretty useful

    Both are Windows

Windows Phone Funny Faces is now also available for FREE and with more features.

Funny Faces was the first face detection and modification app in the Windows Phone Marketplace. It’s the original Windows Phone face detection fun app. It has been copied, but never reached. Funny Faces is the only app which provides real-time face detection Augmented Reality with hilarious masks / overlays.  It’s fast, it’s easy and a ton of fun. And now FREE!
The app uses the phone’s camera to automatically detect faces which are overlaid in real-time with a funny mask, an afro, a mustache, a pacifier, shades, a space helmet, a hat or even the head of a monkey, Chuck Norris, the Troll or Rage face and more. The overlays can be combined resulting in more than 100 possible modifications! Multiple faces are also detected. Everything is done in real-time only with the data from the phone’s camera. It’s also possible to open an existing picture from the pictures hub to apply the face detection and augmentation. The user can then save or share those moments directly on Facebook and Twitter.

Funny Faces has a great user experience, is very responsive and let’s the user focus on their fun. This resulted in great Marketplace reviews like:
★★★★★ “Funny Faces is a bomb app! Great work :)
★★★★★ “My friends get a chuckle out of it.”
    ★★★★★ “Awesome app.”

The new version is now also available for free including ads and there’s also still the $ 0.99 paid version without ads and a trial mode.

We will continue to provide more overlays and effects with subsequent updates. We are also always looking for user suggestions.

You can download a press-kit with screenshots and more info (including the changes):

I used Qt to program a small proof-of-concept game called “Trap, Shake, Kill ‘em” (got the N950 in the process). It uses multi-touch and different sensors to place traps on screen, catch bad guys and shake them dead :) There are a few levels and a few surprises. My friends’ kids love it but reviewers on ovi-store say it’s boring ;)
