Microsoft branded phone already in the works? Waiting for Nokia Deal to clear…SurfacePhone? MS Lumia?

 

Despite previously saying MS wasn’t making their own phone, especially since they have hardware partners like Nokia making great devices, MS are now reported to be making their own phone.

A director at WP MS India is reported to have said:

We are waiting for regulatory clearances on the Nokia deal to merge the devices and hardware business, with Microsoft’s software business. The Microsoft-branded phone is under review, but in the meanwhile we continue to work with our partners like Huawei, Samsung and HTC for Windows OS handsets.

Surface phone? MS Lumia? Or something else? Since MS isn’t allowed to use Nokia in smartphones, the name Nokia is going to be phased out of the Lumia branded devices. Whether Lumia itself will stay is another thing. It is somewhat of a shame, but it could be a signal that perhaps Nokia wants to get back in the game later down the line when they’re no longer prohibited from selling phones (that 2 year space).
