Nokia E72 “Leaked” on YouTube

A promo video of a new Eseries handset, the E72 has been “accidentally” uploaded to the official Nokia Conversations YouTube account. -_-

I don’t see the fuss about it myself. The only thing seemingly exciting is that fact that it has apparently been “leaked”.

You know what I do love? That wibbly wobbly screen that moves beyond the physical LCD, the Sims 2 style music and the creepy text to speech lady.

On a more serious note, all that’s known at the moment:

  • 5MP camera
  • D-pad also acts as mouse pointer

Nice upgrade from the E71 though.

New: Nokia E52 announced! Extreme battery life!

You most likely have heard by now that Nokia have announced the E52. It’s like the normal keypad version of the E55 aesthetically. I’m not much of a fan of the Eseries, except that is for their build quality. I mean, check out this video where build quality is emphised, “High quality Eseries build and finish”. Finnish: was that a pun?

The E52 also has packs some stamina enduring 8 hours talk time and 23 days of stand by, and should be coming in the second half of 2009, priced at 245 Euros (£215).

For the technical specifications, check it out from the Nokia Website.

Video: The Phone Show, Episode 80

The latest episode of the Phone Show covers:

  • The E75
  • Xenon Flash Photography
  • Top 10 iPhone games
  • Interview with Rafe about the N97

Xenon

Aah, Steve Litchfield – one of the very few people I could battle in a moan and groan about the importance of XENON in mobile phone photography. I agree whole heartedly with Steve: Nights out with the N82 (given that I’m not drunk enough) means a lot of memories frozen to be remembered forever (whether you like it or not) on TEH facebook. Xenon isn’t just for nights out, it’s for most indoor/poor lighting situations. With LED flash, your best hope is poor colours and definite blurs – not very good when your subjects are people.

iPhone games

This does spark a lot of jealousy in my Nokia orientated mind. Remember just before the N93 was released, we saw videos of what we were told we should expect from these new Nseries N-Gage platforms?

Alas we saw nothing come close to that ever for Nokia. In comparison, look at everything coming to iPhone/iPod Touch – the 3D games are very well implemented, the graphics and gameplay are both very impressive.

Rafe Blandford and the N97

The ultimate Symbian genius, Rafe talks about the strengths and shortcomings of the N97. Wisely very cautious, Rafe is hesitant to judge whether the N97 will be a success amongst the geeks/technology leaders out there given its relatively disappointing specifications, but reckons the N97 will be a commercial success, as it’s a different Nseries experience with a lot of backing from Nokia and Ovi services.

E75

I do seem to ignore the E-series, but this phone does have an excellent form factor. What with iPhone making everyone touch orientated, buttons seem like a whole new invention as QWERTY keyboard start becoming popular. I like how the E75 looks like a convincing normal candybar then has a QWERTY keyboard (not like E90/N9300i which were obviously too fat to be a normal candybar), and love the build quality and the excellent materials used.

Arrived in Amsterdam!

Still very pleased with the consistently quick satellite locking times of the N82. I was able to get it out in short bursts on the way to the airport just to check where the driver had been going (I swear he went past the same museum 5 times).

Amsterdam – lovely place, quain, almost English architechture. Lots and lots of people on bikes though; and it seems exactly the same type of bike… and everyone rides with no hands on the bars (one on the phone, the other in the pocket) haha. Met the whole Amsterdam-WOM group – everyone’s awesome!

Got through quite a few interesting presentations today, actually arriving in the middle of media Porn business (yes, I too thought, wtf, but it had a lot of relevancy to the whole Nokia marketing strategy…well it made sense at the time), then Nokia UI vision: Point and Find, MobiYouTube, and Swipe and Pay mobile wallets. More on this is future posts.

I also finally got to play with the N810. Super quick initial thoughts…I hate the wobble on the slider, and the buttons on the face. But other than that, it’s really nice. Brighter screen, touch screen is way more responsive (I was able to draw without lagging unlike the N800 even on latest firmware) and of course the qwerty keypad. It was nicer to input text on that I thought, and perhaps with some practice it would get easier to use.

Anyway, must dash, everyone is leaving again for the party tonight!

Grilling of Nokia peeps.

This lovely herbed chicken breast has been grilled to perfection, and in a few hours, so will Nokia Product managers by the many attendants at today’s Nseries event at LA Mansion.

That’s my dish yesterday when I had dinner with Donna, Frank, James, Chris, and Delon (sorry if that’s mispelled)

We met up with Mike – Frank and Don’s Boss – over some drinks at the hotel bar after the meal. There was much conversation about where Nokia could go, and many questions along the line of “Why on earth did Nokia….”

  • …remove the autofocus video recording of the N93i?
  • …remove the camera cover on the N95 8GB/N95-3?
  • …abandon the N93 with only 1 major firmware (still with no A2DP)?
  • …allow such confusing and abstract marketing of the N95, instead of the Apple like straight forward “this is what it can do, this is how to use it”.

The WOMWorld peeps were pretty good at answering out questions, but they said the best people to direct this attention to are the Product Managers responsible for those decisions that may have ticked us off.

WOMWorld also kept firm that there are NO new device annoucements/release. No N82 (though they did look shifty, haha) or the successor to the N800, renders/spy pics we saw a while ago.

Pictures coming soon. It’s uploading as we speak, should be sooner except that the internet at the Crowne Plaza has the speed of a parked bus.

It’s so slow, you have to wait for google to load.
