Jolla has released an Alpha build of their Jolla Launcher to a limited number of testers in a closed trial. We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on it, and have filmed a little video of it running on the Nexus 5.

The Jolla Launcher, for those who don’t know, allows Android users to install a launcher that replicates the Sailfish OS homescreen and allows them to get a feel for the OS, without having to go through the hassle of rooting their phone and installing Sailfish (when a build is available that is).

So far, the launcher has been a smooth experience. We’ve gotten it running on a Nexus 5, on 4.4.4, and a HTC One (M8) running 4.4.2. Sadly, the launcher crashed on the S5 (also on 4.4.2) but given the release was designed to target Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 models, we’re not too worried!
