Ovi Maps 3 now for E71 & E66 (Free Navigation)

| April 6, 2010 | 6 Replies

The latest update from the guys over at Ovi is the addition of the Nokia E71 and E66 to the list of phones which have the latest Ovi maps 3.03 update which includes the free voice navigation and if you pre-load the maps from using Nokia Map Loader you can even use it completely offline as you are currently able to on devices such as the N97, X6 and many others.

A statement from the guys at Ovi Blog:

After listening to your overwhelmingly positive feedback and feeling your love for your favourite mobile phone, we have now created a custom version that works on Nokia E71 and Nokia E66.

However, because of technical constraints, it isn’t possible to offer premium content such as Michelin and Lonely Planet guides on these devices.

Although these two devices will also be the last of our S60 3.1 and older devices to sport this version of Ovi Maps, all upcoming Nokia GPS phones will get free walk and drive navigation.

To download it your self, head over to Nokia Maps and download the latest version to install on your device, I can’t see it in the Ovi store yet but it should be there soon.

I’ve just loaded it on my dad’s E71 and it’s running great, check it out below:

  • Great to hear the “older” devices are getting Ovi Maps too. The strength will be when practically all compatible S60 devices get free navigation. I know it’s pretty much dirt cheap on the likes of N95 but still, free is better than cheap. Shame those devices will be the last “older” S60 to get the Freebie dose.

Gives more functionality to devices, just like Ovi Maps has on your Dad’s E71.

I wanna know where is the support for Ovi Maps 3 for Nokia’s flagship phone – the N900??? We’ve been totally neglected……!!

    • i’m sure it’s on it’s way, think about it, with the advent of MeeGo, the Meamo team will have limited resources, and most likely they are working on a version that works on MeeGo and Meamo OS (assuming they make it in Qt) which would make sense!

But yes we have to be patient!
