Possible Nokia UX for Meego devices

| August 2, 2010 | Comments (41)

OOOHHHH !!!!! look at what we have very nice indeed. If this is real then OMG !!!!!:-)

Update possible ad showing the new Nokia Meego device

The reason why I am showing this is because it shows the same tool bar at the top that I saw in the video above and Symbian 4 screenshots, so these seem legit.

The future is looking bright for Nokia I guess :-)

Thanks to R240R and Jim for the heads up !

  3. Jim says:

i think it’s true. looks really nice. and if you look at the comments on youtube people like the new UI. great job nokia. great job

  4. andre says:

I can honestly say that i am surprised and quite excited by this….easily miles above anything else out there at this point in terms of sheer looks and quite likely a rather extensible and powerful os… Hp and google are gna have to bring their A-game! Bring on nokia world

    • John Wiegand-forson says:

Agree with you there combines striking UI with simple functionality, I was surprised myself and thought straight away FAKE. But then this was supposed to have been showed off in a questionnaire according to reports and it has the Nokia trade mark logo and “Top Secret” written in the left hand corner so lets hope and see

  8. Escape says:

    well, waiting for proper hardware..

  9. Aaron says:

That looks damn good. Thank god they decided to go with a Maemo-style look….assuming its real, that is.

    • Andre says:

I’m pretty confident that it’s real enough that it was built.
That is not just a demo image, noone in UI design goes that far just to show a concept. Concepts are generally uninteractive images.
Whether it actually gets to devices is an entirely different story. I have a sneaking feeling we’ll find out in a few short weeks @ Nokia world.

  10. Jim says:

guy check this pic: http://news.idealo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/nokia-ui-concept.jpg looks awesome
    This make my day beautiful

  11. George says:

I don’t know if this is real or not. The N97 had some sick looking demos before the final UI was released and you guys know how that turned out. I think with 8 or 9 months before the final release I’m not going to get too excited.

  12. JFH says:

First vid is MeeGo, Image looks like S^4 rather than MeeGo tbh. You can tell by the back arrow, the font, and the shape of the top bar.

  13. andre says:

anyone willing to bet on a common UI style between the two OS’s?
    S^4 and Meego

    • John Wiegand-forson says:

Thats what I thought when Nokia revealed their Symbian/Meego strategy makes sense I guess although some modifications like music phones and business phones would be nice though.

    • wes says:

Would make total sense to me. The average user wouldn’t even think about MeeGo or Symbian – it’s just a Nokia. I think that’s what they should be doing. Still then they would have to find a way to differentiate the NSeries from the rest of the S^4 devices…

  14. webby says:

    Sexy as hell!

  15. Cod3rror says:

Looks very good, but I kinda didn’t like the blue button at the top menu bar(at 0:28), should be a different colour IMO, I think in Nokia’s fashion, Meego will be fully theme-able?

I like that S^4 and Meego have more unified system navigation though menu/back, options, close… look the same. It should make switching back and forth and adapting applications for both much easier.

At 0:39, when they show Ovi Store, IMO, the top and bottom menus should be the same width/height.

I don’t like the “Add application” in the applications menu, it should be a separate “Ovi Store” icon, like all the other icons.

That footage seems old, I wonder what’s their current progress.

  16. sparkymat says:

    I hope Symbian^4 will have a similar look’n'feel.

    • Andre says:

They’ve said that’s what they’re trying to do for S^4. Check out the UI layout for applications there and the layout for applications on MeeGo, they’re VERY VERY similar.

  17. wes says:

Does it make sense to have the home button on the top left corner? Considering the probably >4″ display.

    • Andre says:

That’s a necessary part of the UI because of the varying hardware designs that are to be expected with MeeGo devices. Some OEM’s will include hardware home buttons and others won’t simply as a matter of aesthetics. There has to be a persistent way to exit, a persistent way to get to the homescreen and a persistent way to switch tasks. It’s the way the UI is. Not saying that it’s perfect but it’ll work.

  18. gruik says:

It’s a very good UI. I hope that S4 will be good as well. I cross my fingers to have a good hardware…

  19. lonely cent says:

that’s Meego-harmattan.real meego is different.nokia will use this.

  20. mja says:

How do you know it’s Harmattan and not S^4?

    • JFH says:

You can tell by the design this is Harmattan.

      • Andre says:

I agree with JFH on this one, the launcher is a dead giveaway for MeeGo.
Even though in passing this could be mistaken for S^4 ;-)
That seems like a good thing don’t ya think?
        Consistency across devices?
Most users too dumb or don’t care enough to notice the difference except that one is slightly better and more expensive ;)

To me it sounds like a damn good plan

  21. Marcin says:

    delete movie

  22. rocky47 says:

If its this S^4 real, then Nokia will really strike back hard… otherwise… another one fail… but lets hope for the best
