Fring and videocalling on the N8
The guys at Fring have managed to get their hands on 1 (or more!) pre-production N8 devices for testing of their new app for the N8. The video below demonstrates a videocall done over 3G using the N8. Not sure whether this is done via Skype,MSN or Fring-to-Fring but it showcases just one of the many features that the N8 has at its disposal.

Full screen video calling would be a plus, should be included but I’m sure there are other devs who could probably implement a similar thing.
That’s fine but it would be better if fring comes up with that as it’s the more popular than others unless Skype decides to come up with video calling in their app with full screen mode
It’s a possibility. Skype is written with Qt though so we should see decent hardware.
IMHO, N8 has a pretty good hardware, especially the GPU, which is one of the most powerful seen on a smartphone. And even when Nokia has had front camera since 5 years, Skype never updated their Symbian client to support video calling while the iPhone 4 got it just after it was released. Thats kinda sad
And Now that MeeGo devices will be coming soon, I hope they update their client to support video calling soon….
i am pretty sure it is going to have a full screen button or some sort..

GUYS… NOKIA AND SKYPE …. Could we pls get a working VIDEO CALLING version of skype for the nokia N8, this is pathetic that 2 companies of this stature cant have 1 of their coders sit down and make it work.. WE DONT want FRING or any other program.. WE WANT a proper working version of skype for the NOKIA N8.. with video calling and not just normal calling.. please guys.. anyone got any idea’s? would it really take creating a facebook group with millions joining it and complaining about this issue before NOKIA OR SKYPE actually mabe do something about it.. comon guys .. or has someone already cracked it?

The app looks GREAT but I am sorry: what kind of an idiot does not check the video audio quality before posting it as their promo video? How amateurish can you get?
That may be so, maybe trying to demonstrate it working in non-ideal conditions? LOL :p
Some famous qt desktop app and games like goolge earth , video call via skypeand vlc. Needto be made for nokia mobile.

Notice the big , no sorry, super big difference between the introduction of facetime and fring vdo calling service on a mobile device. Apple makes a very big deal(with big lights) of whatever features it introduces in the market. It would have looked weird had Fring done the same thing.
This Fring guy just came out and said… i have a cool and great product come and try it.
Fring as a team and product has slowly and gradually gained lots of respect in the mobile community.
Better to be humble about things that aren’t a big deal. Kinda like “folders” on iOS4 LOL

It’s directed at beta testers of the N8 so quite obviously not a commercial

fring is crap videocalling are available only from fring accoun user to fring account user…forget example to videocalling throug msn from your n8/fring to a pc desktop and viceversa…
Fring is available on many mobile platforms but a desktop client is seriously missing.
Are you sure? It is hardly to believe it. I’d try it by myself.
At least for MSN, fring user can talk with normal MSN user on pc. My old coworker used to use fring MSN on his S60 phone.
In ovi store, there are over 1800 reviews and average rating is 4. I read a bit the reviews and no one complained the problem like this. Low ratings were usually complained about the commercial or difficulties of usage.
Msn chat works well “on” Fring, but when it comes to VOIP, fring to fring voice quality is very good.
Fring users get indication of availabilty (busy, vdo, chat etc). The signal bar indicator also helps me choose if I should call or chat.

yay video calling , now i can use it ….maybe once a year , really you just have to look at the apple face time advert, that was all over the top and emotional i mean yea if i am in another country and my wife is having her first ultrasound or my granddaughter is graduation from college maybe i would want to use video calling.
Dont get me wrong video calling on any phone is a cool feature to have, but its not a killer feature that most people will use alot.

I’ve actually done video calling via fring to a desktop skype user so noru is categorically wrong. Albeit that’s before iphone 4 users inundated fring with their new feature called a front facing camera
Fring to Skype is good but quality(voice+vdo+status indicator) of Fring to Fring is much better.
fring on n8 can’t video calling a pc desktop throug MSN and viceversa (im not interested to skype!)
