Lee Williams, Symbian Executive Director steps down.
Wow, that came straight out of nowhere, but it seems that the Symbian Foundation’s Executive Director (CEO if Symbian was a PLC or LLC) has stepped down from his position with IMMEDIATE effect. Supposedly “personal reasons ” are the reason for his resignation but that seems to have been a common line for all of the Nokia-associated executives that have stepped down as of late. Not sure what the root cause of this sudden, unexpected change is/was or what knock-on effects this may have on Symbian in the future. However, business is moving on as usual it seems with former CFO of Symbian, Tim Holbrow taking the reigns in what seems to be a permanent appointment by the Board of Directors.
How many more senior executives involved in Nokia’s recent stagnation in the high-end market will be sent on their way in the coming weeks? Is this a sign of good things to come from the Finnish giants or is it a tale of rats fleeing a sinking boat?

I do not consider it a tale of rats fleeing. Nokia has a powerful edge of telecomm technology and a super design ability of solid hardware. The problem is in software department that OPK management team was unable to transform quickly enough. According to my source, they were still daydreaming about S60V5 for the high end product as of last year…
Now they are on the right track. S3 is out, and S4 and Meego are under work. Recently I happened to see S4 interfaces. I can say it is a totally new UX, in terms of further improved UI and speed. Future S4 will be built on QT. It looks very promising but it takes time to be ready to market. Meego will be totally different story. We may see it pretty soon.
Everything is under control as supposed.
Today Nokia donated 12M euro to Finnish universities. My uni as the biggest and most famous Finnish technology uni got the half amount. The rest 6M was given other 3 universities in Tampere, Oulu, and Helsinki respectively. Earlier Nokia has started cooperation with Finnish universities in founding Meego training centers for talented students.
As Finnish knowledge capital is a a significant competitive factor for Nokia. Nokia needs to do investment in contributing Finnish university education, as the quality of research and internationalization will help strengthen the competitiveness and prosperity of innovations.

I think this is great news, the point being it shows action, and a determination to sort things out. Some people will see it negatively, but it is absolutely positive. There was a problem, it’s been dealt with and Symbian will change up a gear. Everything is on track as alex68 says.
Symbian should bring in some cool UI designers.
