Arch rivals finally getting together thanks to Microsoft ?

It is happening , thanks to the Nokia-Microsoft deal. CEO Stephen Elop is presenting a keynote at the Uplinq’11 conference by Qualcomm. It’s an indication that both these companies are going to work together ( Largely and obviously thanks to the strict chassis requirements by MS ). So what’s he gonna talk about ? Shouldn’t be hard to guess , but will they throw any surprises ? Like , using dual core Scorpions in all high end WP Nokias ? One can only dream.

About Uplinq’11 :

“Uplinq is designed to provide technical and business content and networking opportunities tuned to the needs of the key players within the wireless ecosystem,” said Bill Davidson, senior vice president of Global Marketing and Investor Relations at Qualcomm. “These industry leaders will share their insight and vision for the future of wireless, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn about development and monetization opportunities across multiple operating systems.”

And Elop’s part in it :

On June 2, the second day of Uplinq, HTC’s Peter Chou will give the opening keynote. Rounding out this lineup of wireless industry leaders will be Nokia’s Stephen Elop who will give the second keynote on Day Two of the conference.

If we take note of the history of bitter fights the two companies had, in terms of patents and licensing, we now know how much has changed. If i remember right, there was a cross-licensing (i think ?) agreement between Nokia and Qualcomm after the huge patent war in 2007, and then Nokia agreed to use Qualcomm chipsets in it’s smartphones. But it never happened , who knows why ?

But , after the Nokia-Microsoft deal, Qualcomm certainly expressed that it’s looking forward to the partnership . Why ? plainly because , it had invested hugely in Microsoft’s OS and it didn’t take off well by sheer volume. Now , since Nokia is in, Qualcomm surely has a larger reach of it’s chipsets (Snapdragon,Scorpion..etc) , which are already supported by HP Palm , HTC , Sony Ericsson . Let’s look forward to the keynote on June 1-2 in San diego.
