LEAK: Nokia RM-701 (N5??) With Symbian Belle?

Here is something interesting, the upcoming Nokia N5. It’s a full touchscreen device with hardware buttons like the C6 and C7: Call/End Call and menu button(s).

Looking at the photo’s alone it seems to come with an updated version of Symbian which looks very much like the pictures we’ve seen of Symbian Belle, but there is no confirmation this actually is Belle.
The device is aimed at the mid segment judging bythe materials it’s made from and the smallish 3.2 inch srceen GSM Arena reckons it has. On the back it is sporting a 5 Megapixel camera with a single LED flash and a rather large speaker grill.

Interestingly, this N5 is apparantly going to be followed by the N6 and N7. So the house with model numbers is definitly out the door at Nokia. Will we also see a C8 and C9 now?

Head over to this link for more pics. Or if that goes down go to GSM Arena

Thanks Alee for the tip (and @@KobusNell)

Even though it uses the soon-dead Symbian, it looks to be quite good. If the price is right, this might sell well.

    • Ninja says:

Ha Ha nice try bro. But everyone knows Symbian has years of full life left in it – multiple major updates, 10 or more new phones with it in the next year alone, 2nd best ecosystem on the planet, 2nd greatest appstore on the planet, GHz devices, best cameras on the planet (N8), what will be biggest software platform on the planet by far (Qt – already size of Android sales but growing hugely with new Symbian and S40) and Symbian already has biggest installed smartphone base on planet 250 – 300 million.

That enough for ya bro? ;-)

      • h3csc says:

        No.
The girl sitting next to me don’t know.
The boy sitting in front of me don’t know either.
The girl sitting behind me don’t know as well.
Neither my parents know about it.
Nor the chef in the restaurant know about it.
They don’t even give a shit what Symbian is.

Please be remember how insignificant the number of geeks are.

        • Ronald says:

oh so thats why there are more than a billion symbian devices?good logic bro.lol

          • Ninja says:

There aren’t. There are around 250 – 300 million Symbian in use today. Another 150 million to be sold. Over a billion S40 in use today, S40 that will get Qt – the same software platform Symbian and MeeGo have.

        • Ninja says:

Yes, but the facts I listed still stand as the truth – they’re FACTS.

Cool, so that’s one thing you can’t argue against :)

Second thing is, right – nobody knows right? (well average punter doesn’t shall we say). So they don’t Symbian is on the way out at all (you can’t have it both ways! They can’t not know about Symbian and yet somehow also know Symbian is on the way out eventually).

So what you are saying works totally in favour of Symbian. When these people who don’t know about Symbian are presented with it, they see a great OS, with loads of features, excellent hardware, and a huge rapidly growing app store in Ovi with almost 50,000 apps in it.

          Nice :)

        • Diego says:

What u had said before only proves that ppl around u are dumb ^^ and u are stupid coz those ppl doenst need to know shit about mobile OS, they care only with UI/UX, and spend theyr money on apps that WE GEEKS/NERDS/WATHEVER will be coding, so in fact those numbers really matters, when those billion ppl start purchasing apps(theydont need to know about Android/Symbian/WP7) they care about they can do with theyr phone and thats all

and that means a billion ppl getting the possibility to buy apps wake up!!!

      • CivOtaku says:

(I own an N8 myself, and it’s awesome and I don’t regret buying it)
I meant that it is known that it won’t be around for very long. It’s the only major mobile OS out there that we know will be scrapped in the near future.

Look at the homescreen pictures. http://www.excellular.co.za/nokia-n5/photo2.JPG

And, according to the pics, new browser. I wonder if it will still be stuck on the ARM11 Broadcom cocktail…

  3. Cod3rror says:

Is somebody going to say elop leaked this too?

  4. aboodesta says:

I have a feeling this will be the first symbian device running a 1Ghz processor.

    • Kobus Nell says:

Hmm, must say I’m not as optimistic as you. My bets are on the last shipment of the ARM11 680Mhz phones. I don’t think they will plunk a 1GHz chip into something wearing a “5″ first.

I’m more optimistic that the next Symbian Flagship will introduce 1GHz, or maybe 1.2GHz cpu’s. The N9 has shown that a Qt interface does not need a something splashy, and I’m hoping this holds true for Symbian Qt devices. More RAM, maybe. Seeing the N9 multitask was fantastic!

So, I’m guessing the first Symbian 1GHz phone will be N8-01. Followed by E7-01. Using the N9 chipset… Dreeeaaaaamm, dream dream dream…

  5. Alee says:

and oh.. did someone notice that it has those tiny little dots for homescreens here ?
    http://www.excellular.co.za/nokia-n5/photo2.JPG
showing its on 2nd homescreen and widgets too !!

so we will seeing those dots in belle too :D

    • Dave says:

Belle will have at least four homescreens, I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be five though. At least the model I tried had five.
I also think they’ve updated those widgets a tiny bit since the last build I played with but not by much :) .

  6. Irving says:

Due to the low resolution screen (not CBD amoled) i think this phone will fall under the C series (maybe C5-04 by the way its shaped)

  7. h3csc says:

    Can you keep a secret?
    Sorry, no.
    lol!

  8. Markk117 says:

belle looks good but the phone looks crappy

  9. Richard says:

What ever its name whether C series or N series I don’t want its design. I hate 5800 design. LOL! If it is N5, I want to see N7 and N6. As of the moment I’m considering and wanting either N9 or N8.

  10. kevin says:

Ok let me see if I have this right… Meego Harmattan 1.2 exists, it looks amazing, super fluid and more flexible than Symbian, it runs on hardware that’s almost identical to the N8 but with a better CPU.

Why the hell would I want a Symbian smartphone now when Harmattan looks wayyyyy better.

    anyone?

  11. himanshu says:

Ok I tell u the story-
S^3 will replace s60v5 by November.
WP7 will replace S^3 in high end category.
Meego to follow Apple like strategy to release 1 or 2 phones per year.
N9 is the last Meego phone of 2011.

    • hi, how did you get your info? =D

    • slayer says:

thats the most logical strategy, I really hope thats the case.

    • Harangue says:

The N9 is the last MeeGo phone ever. Not because Elop said so, but because they are probably going back to Maemo/Harmattan.

Without the pressure of saving Nokia it can slowly mature further and benefit from the ‘ecosystem’ that will expand with WP, Symbian and S40.

So yeah, MeeGo/Maemo phones will be on an Apple like schedule showcasing the best Nokia can offer.

      • Average Joe says:

Hm? The N9 is Maemo/Harmattan. It isn’t “real” MeeGo. And the next Maemo release would have the name of a wind starting with “I” instead of Harmattan.

        • Harangue says:

The N9 needed to wear the MeeGo name due to contract obligations. At least that’s what I keep hearing. But future devices based of off Maemo/Harmattan would be free to use another name again since Nokia is not a part of MeeGo as it used to be before.

But in the end assumptions at best.

          • Jim says:

no, you are wrong. Do you think Intel is so stupid that you can cheat them naming…say Symbian phone – a MeeGo phone?

Anyway, Shmerl prove it to be wrong point of view on the whole N9 thing somewhere in comments to other posts.

  12. joha says:

Doesn’t fit with the current N-series design language. Looks like C-series to me.

  13. DGui says:

It’s funny how that ‘Belle’ Bar at the bootom doesn’t reflect like the rest of the screen does… Another funny thing is that I live in South Africa and know all the major retailers out there and yet I’ve never heard of this one… I found a device looking like this’ patent a few weeks ago and posted it to my blog so this might be real, I doubt the name though and the source…

  14. Telneting says:

I don’t care about N whatever. Just give me portrait qwerty on my N8 ! What the heck ! I’v been waiting for the update since last year !

  15. Shriek says:

Hmm or is this the S40 with belle icons and QT as rumored.

  16. Don says:

    Browser version 7.4 ?

Current crop of S^3 is 7.2, the new and improved browser due for november 2010 is 7.3.

QtWebkit for Symbian (“Nokia Mobile platforms”) has been prioritized recently and is up to 2.1.1 (http://labs.qt.nokia.com/2011/05/30/qtwebkit-2-1-1-released/) which may include (not sure) some CSS GPU accelerations, much better html5 support, and background rendering.

    Is 7.4 a QtWebkit browser ?

  17. Usedtolovemeegoandnokia says:

No way this is an N- series phone.

It has C-series written all over it. Hell, the C7 looks better than this!

  18. John says:

I am secretly hoping that Symbian belle is a mini version of the UI on the N9 :-)

  19. indoboys says:

n series ? this phone should have auto focus cam instead lol edof *-* ?

  20. umar says:

After N9 everything seems dull and dated !!!
even belle doesn’t excites me anymore

  21. Alboooz says:

I think the way i see on the pic, it is with resistive touchscreen and stereo speakers and will be sold as mid price for developed countries!
    They always dun like this!

  22. RaV says:

Check this out Guys http://www.flashfly.net/wp/?p=3862 sounds interesting ;)

  23. deep space bar says:

elop just killed the Nseries :( fuck you elop
