Hi there! Thanks for reading my post. I'm a gadget lover and my enthusiasm towards Nokia began, more than 10 years ago, when I laid eyes on my late 3210 ;) At the moment I am actively involved in theme developing for Symbian devices. huh , is it me or no NFC for the 500 … :) too bad would’ve attracted people to join in …

  2. eze says:

nokia really improved on the waiting time for upcoming devices.
i remember waiting almost 9months for the N8 to be released, worst 9months of my life! tho worth it

  3. MontyN95 says:

Thot this was going to be cheaper. You can get a C6-01 for this price now with much better specs! What’s nokia thinking???

  4. howard says:

nokia is fucking crazy, first nokia 700 by 270 and now this !!!!!!!!!

  5. A-S-D says:

Appropriately priced for a new phone but Nokia needs to realise that if they want their 2nd gen devices to sell well, they have to either cut their prices quickly or discontinue their older phones such as the C6-01 and C7.

  6. GREENHORN says:

It seems NOKIA has once again gone nuts and overconfident over two recent terms… “1 GHz” and “Belle”. It will ruin its business and image by offinsively pricing the new products. No wonder, I have again started thinking of other brands….

  7. nfbsk says:

Thats way too pricey and a very tough sell when compared against mid-range android devices. The c6-01 is better in almost every way for about the same price. I hope in the future nokia sets a competitive price from the beginning without having to wait for price drops.

  8. Anjanu Sonkar says:

its clear from the price that they do not want to sell it or sell as less a possible…making room for Windows Phone, courtesy Elop!!!

  9. BellGo says:

Sigh. The price has doubled suddenly for no apparent reason. I’m blaming Eflop for this. Why? How often do you see random price doubling for a product?

The 700 was supposed to cost approx this amount btw. (with out taxes, but still)

  10. adit38 says:

    too expensive….

  11. YouKnowYouFail says:

hmm in my country the C7-s are 240 euros. Why exactly would I buy this?

  12. fantom says:

Against what phones are you comparing this phone?

  13. Jeettak says:

The Engadget article clearly states the phone will sell for 99 Euro’s or less on contract. The price shown on the Nokia site is for a contract less (SIM Free) purchase.

Nokia sites always list the product for a higher price than other retailers, maybe they have some sort of contractual agreement which makes it this way. I would Hazard a guess this product will be available free on an 18 month contract for 15 Euro’s a month.

A simple Google search gave me this result on play.com: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/-/1020/1265/-/22768587/Nokia-500-Sim-Free-Unlocked-Mobile-Phone/Product.html. This shows the Nokia 500 available for £169.99 SIM free, which equates to 197.4 Euro’s.

  14. ravo says:

why are you calling this for expensive for? wildfire s cost about 2500 if you go to a store if not more.. 229$ is about 1500 here in sweden.. thats nothing for a phone.. how can you call it expensive

    • BellGo says:

We call it expensive because you can get better phones for the same price, even from Nokia.

(Plus it was supposed to be much cheaper)

  15. Sun Down says:

Well, at least we got the N9 already…

  16. Lazerus says:

Soooo freaking annoying, the thing was only announced 3wks ago & we already have exact dates for availability.
N9 we “still” have no freaking idea, except that it’s prolly somewhere between Sep15 & Oct 31st.
And it won’t be simultaneous “everywhere”, in many regions it will be, but not worldwide.
    Such a joke……
If it extends past mid-October I’m done with Nokia for good.
At that point they can only be artificially delaying it, no doubt anymore.

  17. CSSThemes says:

I think I should have mentioned that VAT in Portugal is 23%…
Depending on the country it is going to be released, it might make a bit of a difference.
Having that said, I have to agree that for the range this is meant, it is a bit pricey

  18. migo says:

that’s just too expensive. sigh. I wish Nokia had learned, but it would appear they don’t realise that they need to be more competetive in the price department
