#N9Hacks: Standby Screen Mod (Terminal + App)

| January 14, 2012 | Comments (29)

I’ve shown you how to change your clock colour, now lets take a look at altering the operator logo. Some devices are said to come to with operator logos, if they own a branded Nokia N9.

There are a few apps out there, that simply allow you to select an image and use it as the operator logo. These can both be found at the store, one called LPMCustomiser and the other is DIY Operator Logo.

I have only used LPMC and love it. It allows you to use the images from your gallery to add them to the Low Power Mode standby screen. Unfortunately, the app alone will only let you use an icon 120 x 120. This is where Terminal comes into play. Using Terminal, you can make the operator logo size bigger so it can accommodate for a bigger image. The image, like most other system images, must be in png format. There are some pretty cool screen out there. Here are my favourite ones (also the one up the top is a favourite):

The N9 looks so sexy in White! I want that font too

For people who have no idea how to unlock the phone

For those interested in making the operator logo bigger, here’s how; (SSH is suggested.)

  1. Enable Developer Mode, ensure Utilities is installed
  2. Open Terminal
  3. Gain root access
    devel-su
    Password = rootme (Unless changed)
  4. cd /usr/share/themes/base/meegotouch/libsysuid-screenlock-nokia/style/
  5. nano *.css
  6. Use the arrows to find the line of code “LockScreen MImageWidgetStyle#LockScreenLowPowerModeOperatorLogo”
  7. Edit the max size to what you like. I changed it to maximum-size: 45mm 45mm; (translates to 450 x 450) and it is more than enough.
  8. Ctrl + x
  9. Y
  10. Hit enter
  11. /sbin/reboot

Your device will reboot, and should now allow for a larger Operator Logo. Use one of the programs mentioned above and enjoy.

NB: If like me, this doesn’t work, try editing the file again, replacing base for blanco in the file path. I worked out, since I had used Theme Changer and reverted back to original theme, I chose Blanco, therefore I needed to alter the blanco file. For the majority of you, editing the file in base will be enough.

Let me know if you have any issues and I’ll do my best to solve them.

Also, since I am coming up to the end of the mods I have discovered (to be safe) and using at the moment, I am going to open the comments up for suggestions. I will also be bringing tutorials soon about installing Nemo on the N9 and other little tips that may help you fix  some mistakes when you hack this beast.

    • Michael Faro-Tusino says:

Yeah, you need to use this command

      gconftool-2 –set /desktop/meego/screen_lock/low_power_mode/operator_logo –type string “path/to/img”

I managed to make the codes work. I resized my picture to 450×450, converted it to black&white and saved as PNG format. Then i used LPMC to show it on the display. Its working but the color is like greenish errr and its constantly being changed thanks to sensor. How can i make its color looks like the pictures above(one on the top). Please help, thank you

    • @UGN999 says:

Can someone make this picture ready for my phone:D ( http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18319450/Bold.jpg )
I am noob at photoshop and codes. I tried my best to make this picture meet the requirement(450, black&white etc) and here it is – http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18319450/450.png

if you download and use the second picture you’ll understand what i am talking about that greenish color. i just want to make same as the pictures above. Thank you

      • CH4R3L says:

That won’t work. The pictures have to be black OR white.
In Google Image Search look at the left toolbar and select Black & White for the colors and Clipart for the for the type and you’ll see what kind of images you can use.
If you have an image, open it in PS or paint or whatever and invert the colors, so that white gets black and black gets white. Additionally you can delete everything that’s black now and make it clear to reduce the size of the image.
        Hope that will help.

    • CH4R3L says:

The colors in the image must be White (#FFFFFF), Red (#ff0000), Green (#00ff00), Blue (#0000ff), Magenta (#ff00ff), Cyan (#00ffff), Yellow (#ffff00) or Black (#000000).

      To disable the sensor:
      - Navigate to /etc/mce/mce.ini
      - Open the file in vi and change ”filter-brightness-als” to ”filter-brightness-simple” under the [Modules].

    Hi Michael,

Finally, I got my hands on the white version of this beauty. :)

Before I am hacking it, I need to know how I can have my changes undone without re-flashing or restoring to the defaults my N9.

I need to know, if I go the manual way of modding the LPM, what should I type to remove my logo? Just in case.

    Thanks in advance,

    LVPVS GLORIVS
