Weekend Watch: Nokia Lumia 710 Voice Recognition

| February 4, 2012 | 9 Replies

The Nokia Lumia 710 has system wide Voice Recognition that is powered by Bing Voice. This video demonstrates just a few of the many uses for voice recognition, from getting directions, application launching, and speech to text messaging. The system isn’t flawless as it sometimes does not recognize my voice or start the recognition when initiated, as you will see during the video. Regardless, it is a great VR system and as always, there is room for improvement.

Thank you for watching and I hope that everyone is having a great weekend!

Great video man. I found the same with my trial unit. Maybe my Aussie accent made it stuff up a bit, since the handset was of UK origin. But the voice played back to you had an American accent, so maybe it struggles with your individual accent

Thanks Michael, I’m glad you liked the video. Yes, it may be an issue with accent recognition. I also noticed that the VR doesn’t censor results. I let my daughter try the VR and it displayed results that she CLEARLY didn’t say! I had to quickly take the phone from her. It was a O_O moment.

That’s bad. There should be a setting somewhere for content filtering. Especially if this is to attract people to the platform. Obscene results would just make them look the otherway

My dad cannot use the VR system at all because he’s got the Asian accent. With the “correct” accent the phone managed itself pretty accurately with calls, searches, etc.

Tried the Rogers version of Lumia 710 from Canada.

You don’t need to open Bing or Messaging to use voice dictation. Just hold the Home Button and say “Text so and so” or “find such and such” : )

When I attempt to send text messages, all I get is “couldn’t send your message, please try again” – the voice activation works for everything else. Is there anything I’m doing wrong or anything I need to modify in the settings/turn on or off? Thanks.
