Nokia are looking to expand their mapping footprint further into iOS and Android by bringing one more feature on the mobile web browser version: voice-guided, turn-by-turn walk navigation.

This is apparently designed just for urban use, hence walking only.

A reader commented asking why isn’t such features available on Nokia’s own Lumia?

Pino from Nokia answered:

We want to make Nokia Maps available on as many screens as possible. iOS and Android are just an example. Think about Nokia Car Mode with MirrorLink support that make Nokia Drive available on the dashboard of your car.
Now, this strategy is much bigger than single features available or not on different platforms. What is really important is that we are continuously improving our location based services in a horizontal way.
Plus, you should expect much more advanced features than voice guided navigation from a native app like Nokia Maps on Nokia Lumia.

Here are some other comments from Pino explaining the matter:

we are collecting very positive feedback for Nokia Maps and to allow this service to further grow, it is part of Nokia’s strategy to make it available for as many screens as possible.
Also, to make it easier for everyone to discover and share places and routes, we introduced m.maps.nokia.com, specifically designed for iOS and Android devices.
This is, for technical reasons, not available in Windows Phone IE9 browser, but we are committed to further expand our location based services portfolio.
If you have a Nokia Lumia, you can download Nokia Maps as a native app from the Windows Phone Marketplace. This is also going to be continuously updated, with voice navigation and also more advanced features.

Cheers all for the tip!
