Jolla number 6 in Finland’s top 100 start ups

| September 2, 2014 | Reply

Part of the descent of Nokia saw a flurry of new start ups in Finland. Usually, the behemoth would gobble up the new talent but there’s a fresher direction in Finland. One of these start ups that we frequently blog about is Jolla. They’re in the top 100, currently ranked number 6 in Finland […]

Woop! Opera Mini comes to Windows Phone – sign up for the beta today

Yay! Whilst IE was steadily improving and although there are a lot of “alternative” browsers, this is the first one I guess that is actually not simply a different IE wrapper. It’s Opera Mini! Whilst yes, ideally it would have been Opera Mobile, at least it’s new. http://www.opera.com/wpbeta Their test version is available and they want […]

How the Windows Phone Settings Menu was designed.

How the Windows Phone Settings Menu was designed.

| September 2, 2014 | 8 Replies

Windows Phone’s settings. They’re possibly one of the most ill conceived settings menus I’ve ever come across and it’s gotten a lot worse since WP8.0 when it was given more features. Back in early WP7 days, it sort of made sense for more common things to be there at the start. It wasn’t so […]

Nokia Lumia 920 with iOS in commercial

This might be an old one you’ve seen before but I found it intriguing, if not least to entertain the notion of a Lumia with iOS. Here’s a Nokia Lumia 920 with what looks to be an old version of iOS. Note how the windows button is carefully hidden away there. It looks like the […]

Plastic Surgery back to black: DIY Housing change on Nokia Lumia 1020

Plastic Surgery back to black: DIY Housing change on Nokia Lumia 1020

| September 1, 2014 | Reply

Reddit user, kertong, wasn’t a fan of the yellow colour on his Nokia Lumia 1020. So he changed it with a housing he bought  along with matching SIM tray. Apparently it wasn’t all that difficult and gives the 1020 a “serviceability rating” of 9/10 http://www.reddit.com/r/windowsphone/comments/2f4bje/got_tired_of_the_yellow_so_i_bought_a_new_rear/ the hardest part was prying the screen out of the body […]

MTR: Nokia Lumia 930/ICON vs HTC One M8

| August 31, 2014 | 4 Replies

Lisa from Mobile Tech Review compares two very similar windows phone powerhouses. Nokia’s miniature 1520, a Nokia Lumia 930/ICON and the WP version of the HTC One M8. It’s a great offering from HTC. The camera, camera button and AMOLED might sway more towards the Nokia, but that expandable memory, IR blaster and newer CPU […]

Nothing much to say, really. It’s a promo for Fast lane on the soon to be defunct X family member, Nokia X2. I guess the pastel colours and upbeat music make it somewhat appealing.

Why would Microsoft be interested in Buying Android custom Mod devs Cyanogenmod?

| August 30, 2014 | 19 Replies

Cyanogenmod is self described as an aftermarket OS that delivers features on Android that are not found on the official Android. With Nokia X, Microsoft’s brief play in Android ramping down, what could be the interest in getting the developers from Cyanogenmod? A subscription is needed to view the original source article, but it seems MS […]

In an interview with Nokia CEO, Rajeev Suri, tells Economic Times India that it’s the strongest financial position Nokia’s had in 5 years with an 11.4% operating margin. Well here’s a mega bargain if I did see one. Entering the prices of the almost disposable and certainly back up phone, Carphone Warehouse has the Quadcore Nokia Lumia 530 at an amazing £39.95! However, as Tom Warren corrects in the comments, this is for a “Pay as you go Upgrade”. Brand new on pay […]

Pictures of the Nokia Lumia 730/735 have surfaced. This looks like a return to the original ‘fabula’ design first seen in the N9 and refined many generations later in Lumia. Pillowy appearance with flat bottom and top. The 730 is said to have a 5MP selfie loving front camera. The back is a mix of […]
