Lumiappaday #194: Face Swap demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 (and new intro video)

Hey folks, two things I want you to check out in this cool post. First up, our neat new intro created for us by Reader, ‘Rock’. 🙂 Thanks for that mate!

Secondly, onto our Lumiappaday – Face Swap. This has been around in the market for a while from Microsoft Research Centre but recently this sort of thing has become super popular across the internet, with Reddit and Facebook being key culprits of people enjoying swapping of faces for a bit of fun.

It’s certainly something my friends have been enjoying and creates a lot of discussion when it ends up on facebook.

So the app is simple. Just take a picture, either from your albums or a new one from the camera. Face Swap will detect faces (and more than two possible). You can select how many you want swapped – then click swap.  A neat little animation of a cat and a dog’s face swapping shows you what’s happening and then you get your final picture which you can save.

I’ve been too lazy to email myself the original picture so here’s one sample I downloaded directly from facebook. Note FB generally degrades quality but it’s good enough for facebook.

As you can see, the result is pretty good. This isn’t something that took time in photoshop – it was just a few seconds in Face Swap. A neat thing this can do is take another picture and it will line it up next to another one and you can swap face between different pictures.
