Science Lesson: How the N8s Anodized Aluminum Unibody is Made

Just a bit of show and tell; I realize the N8 isn’t the newest phone on the market but I’ve long admired the Aluminum Unibody casing on it; well here’s a nice video explaining how this “Anodized Aluminum” is achieved (true he uses the iPod/Macbook as an example but the same principle applies for the N8

Summary for those not interested in the video: Using some pretty simple yet clever science, engineers are capable of oxidizing the aluminum under control; so basically they let the aluminum rust to make it stronger; then insert dyes into the tiny honeycomb pores that form (which is what give them the color)- Since these dyes are deeply invested in the aluminum they won’t wear off unless you scrape the layer completely off; which is why when the N8s body is scratched it retains the same color. Anyways I thought it was cool.
