Have Any Questions For Jolla Mobile? Get Us to Ask them!

| July 12, 2012 | 103 Replies

Quick post y’all, Michael emailed me to post about this since his internet is kinda sucky as he’s spelunking across Europe; anyways-

I was wondering, can you post up asking if anyone has questions for Jolla Mobile? I have managed to get an interview with them, and want to know what people want to know.

Basically if you have anything you’d like to know from JM about their plans, products, startup, or just want to ask how the weather is over there let us know down in the comments section below, or mention Michael on Twitter @MFaroTusino

Cheers :)

Will they use a lot cloud based services or have a solution for all the paranoid people in the world?
Since many people dislikes sharing there stuff to big companies.

  2. erik says:

Will they be cooperating with Nokia somehow, as an external company? will Nokia be one of the investors behind the project at all?

    • Mariusmssj says:

from what they have said they are ex-nokia guys, but Jolla is independent company as nothing to do with Nokia Anymore

  3. Will they possible to deliever there mobile product to every country ? Will they launch in emerging market ? Are you developing low cost low end device ?

  4. MeeGo Lover says:

Please tell Jolla to use/borrow Swipe UI! MeeGo/N9 is Swipe UI!

Shitty Windows Phone is not using Swipe UI anyway.

    • Mariusmssj says:

Their making their own UI, but they say it’s inspired by N9. As the UI will be open source you can count on many mods being made to have custom swipe UI :)

    A few questions:

    (1) Will they make use of some means of running Android applications in order to get around the chicken-and-egg problem of getting applications on a new ecosystem (so you can get users, so you can get apps….)?

    (2) I just bought an N9 a few weeks ago, and I love it. Since I had to buy it unsubsidized and on the free market (the way you should buy a cell phone, anomalous thought that model is here in the USA!), I’m set for a few years. However, I want support for that phone and I want to support the principles that Jolla aspires to in trying to move forward open source platforms. Will Jolla offer any products that I can buy as an N9 owner/user?

  6. ssdh says:

Well, can you ask them how “high” in the high end market are they aiming for..??
(for example i really want to see them use those next gen A15 multi cores, at least that would take advantage of meego’s efficiency, and they would at least be safe specs wise)
Also, how are they going to address stuff lyk customer support, repairs, distribution, etc…
    Thanks much..

    Second question from me.

Will they make the contact / message database completely compatible and consistent with Nokia’s (as it exists on the N9 / Symbian phones)? I really don’t feel like having to check and reformat 100s of contacts ….

    • James says:

“Will they make the contact / message database completely compatible and consistent with Nokia’s (as it exists on the N9)?”

The guys involved with MeR+Nemo could probably tell you that.
It’s likely Jolla will use the same or a very similar mechanism.
Check out the relevant site/mail-lists/IRC channels…

      • James says:

Then again they may er on the cautionary side & decide they cant say with authority what Jolla will use (but that’ll probably just be spin IMO).

  8. Nata says:

Jolla is not telling the whole story. Who on earth would seriously believe a new, 5-50 man strong startup, would launch in some months a globally distributed mobile device? It will require more people to simply create the documentation than this. And, remember that all the Jolla key people were still working at Nokia only 3 weeks ago. The real story is:

    a) Jolla is a cover for Nokia’s 100% funded and resourced b-strategy(MS exit).

    b) is funded by Facebook, Amazon or other major entity, who are able to provide some of the global infrastructure required.

    I dont’t expect an anwser to this…

    • James says:

It’s only being “announced” some time this year, not rolled-out.
      And they’ve never guaranteed a global roll-out….
They’ve only said they’ll clarify their roll-out plans once they make the announcement.
And they’ve been in existence since April last year (heavy work didn’t start till Oct though).
And it’s not 5 man team, it’s 50 man strong with plans to be at least 100 before the EoTY.
They’ve emphatically denied they’re owned or funded solely by one major corp. in several interviews.
They have their own plans, which includes collaborations/partnerships with much bigger companies ofc.
