DSC01507According to the Verge, Microsoft will be releasing GDR3 (general distribution release 3) late this year (holiday season. The update will supposedly bring support for 1080p screens as well as more processor options; paving the way for phablet like devices (with larger screens and more processors).

We understand that the GDR3 update will also provide support for new Qualcomm processors, allowing manufacturers to opt for quad-core devices with Windows Phone.

Apparently this GDR3 update is NOT part of the rumored Microsoft Blue, which is set to follow it later on.

-Didn’t MSFT say that WP8 supports up to 64 cores? Then why do they need a processor update to support Quad cored

Thanks for the tip Alvester
