Video and Screenshots: Tweetgo.net on the Nokia N8 – Best web alternative to Gravity/Social App and Snaptu for twitter? For other Nokia Browsers too.
As twitter apps goes, gravity is undeniably the best one to go for. But what if for whatever reason you don’t want gravity? (I can only guess the price but that pays for itself with the amount of times you use it – OH and if you have multiple Symbian phones I think you can only have one active with Gravity).
Alternatives include snaptu, nokia social app and tweet60. But for me, they’re all pretty slow. For just reading tweets and sending tweets, I need something better.
A great solution as found on the Gravity deprived Maemo platform was a website called tweetgo.net, as recommended by our own Sergejs. This is a fantastic mobile friendly twitter client that works well in both landscape and portrait, squeezing to what ever width is available (even so much as resizing when the side bar pops up).
- Finger Friendly – big icons
- Relatively fast (for a browser “app”)
- Works in landscape or portrait
- text realignment/resizing fits column width (to a point)
- As a tip, bookmark tweetgo.net and on your shortcut homescreen bar, select tweetgo.net as one of your shortcut options so you can instantly launch tweetgo.
- Video demo at the end of this post
- Should work similarly on other Nokia S60 5th Browsers and identically on S^3.
Below you can see the big digit friendly buttons at the top, allowing you to switch between Home/Time line, mentions, lists, DMs, search and write a tweet. On the right you’ll see it move to the mentions tab.
Top bar disappears when scrolling through list. (Scrolling in browser very smooth – nicer than the social app)
And works well in whatever orientation
Notice the resizing when the side bar appears.
One of my favourite things about tweetgo.net is that it’s very easy and quick to tweet. Just press the right most button and you’ll get a message box. The landscape keyboard will appear (in this case Swype)
One of the things I had not done in the screenshot above is to show that you can zoom out and the text will resize accordingly within the column width.

Do you tweet? What twitter app/site do you use?
