Nokia’s Jo Harlow 7th Most Influential Woman in Wireless.
Stephen Elop tweets in that Nokia’s chief of Smart Devices, Jo Harlow has been named as the 7th Most Influential Women in Wireless for 2011 by Fierce Wireless.
FierceWireless notes that Harlow has been at Nokia since 2003. In 2009 she was put in charge  of the smartphones unit and in 2010 was head of Symbian Smartphones (with Alberto Torres, who left on Feb11, head of MeeGo). Harlow continues on as EVP of Smart Devices (not just phones) and is a member of Stephen Elop’s new Nokia Leadership Team.
Harlow has been most recently at the forefront of the Windows Phone transition. Harlow has famously said (well, amongst Symbian fans) that it was much easier to go with Windows Phone than continue on with Symbian and was present with Stephen Elop at MWC to suggest strong possibility of Nokia’s first Windows Phone coming out by 2011. I also remember Harlow’s post at Nokia Conversations back in November, titled, “Long Live Symbian” – “Make no mistake, Nokia chooses Symbian.”. Oh how times change.
Jo Harlow has a lot on her plate. She must deliver the first Windows Phones on time and ensure the steady releases Windows Phone devices in 2012 (with at least one having flagship worth status) because Windows Phone is Nokia’s Primary Smartphone platform (note PRIMARY meaning others will still exist, and are also important).
