Gartner says Nokia still number 1 in Smartphones for Q2 2011?
This morning, we got tipped (by ‘hmm) of an article on NASDAQ claiming Nokia were still the number 1 smartphone manufacturer in Q2.
I only skimmed over the article, but didn’t think too much of it because they had put Nokia’s overall sales for Q2 as entirely smartphone based. That article – at least the link given – seems to have been deleted.
So it was interesting to hear Engadget saying the same thing. Using Gartner’s numbers based on smartphone sales – phones that reach a consumer, Nokia is still number 1. Â Gartner noted though a deflated demand for Symbian and inventory management issues in Europe and China. Just looking at the Symbian portfolio compared to the competition, do you really think Nokia’s arsenal is of any comparison to the others?
Such news is nice to hear, but its of little comfort for Nokia, who for resting on laurels and basking in past success has seen their share in overall mobile and smartphone market share crash. Now and in the next 12 months, Nokia needs to knuckle down and execute their transition to Windows Phone and brand revival.
