Windows Phone to take 25% of Asian corporate sector, ahead of iOS/Android. Number 1 WP sales by 2012.

Ovum’s recently published report speculates that in the next 5 years, Windows Phone will take 1/4 of all ENTERPRISE shipments in Asia, ahead of iOS and Android. By 2016, the numbers suggest a deadlock between WP and RIM. Something labelled as “Other” – most likely collection of multiple mobile OSes, ranks the highest.

Symbian will apparently have no presence in the corporate sector by 2016 (the ‘expiration date’ when Symbian would still be supported).

What is this research based on?

It’s interesting to note that both IDC and Gartner have in the past suggested a rosy future for the Windows Phone platform – possibly mainly by Nokia’s participation.

In a talk with Nokia execs during Nokia World, one mentioned that Nokia’s plan is to be the number 1 Windows Phone manufacturer by 2012, edging out Dell, LG, Samsung and HTC. That’s no mean feat but it’s highly possible.

What we should note is that Nokia’s Windows Phones are coming in batches or waves. The 710 and 800 are just the first two. 12 are expected in 2012, and these are going to be both addressing Nokia’s high end properly (ala, the Nokia Stamp, actual Nokia produced products, not from Compal), as well as lower end sectors, reaching low price points Windows Phone has not managed before.
We may also see, paired up, the super charged Metro UI in Windows 8, something else to complete the family of Nokia Metro products.

Symbian of course will still have it’s place. Just to reiterate, we are still waiting for that camera successor to N8, one at least is tipped to be Symbian powered.
