Elop: As long as I am the CEO, the headquarters are in Espoo

We got an email from Tommi that there was an interview on a Finnish TV show of Stephen Elop by Arto Nyberg.

I don’t know what the video talks about as it seems to allow viewing only in Finland.

Anyway, also from YLE, is a post saying that Nokia’s HQ is to stay in Finland.

1) Why would it not?

But what I find most odd is the wording they’ve put here:

As long as I am the CEO, the headquarters are in Espoo. Nokia’s got a lot of talent here in Finland

Now for sure, he’s just saying that he’ll be doing what ever is in his power as the Chief Executive Officer, aka The Boss, to ensure Nokia HQ stays in Finland.

Doubters might say that just means that Nokia’s HQ will move out of Finland the moment Elop is no longer CEO of Nokia – and it was rumoured by a famous Russian (who has been wrong possibly more times than right, though he has been right – but that’s possibly due to the old age throw enough mud on the wall) that he would leave Nokia in 2011/early 2012.

Finland does have a lot of talent, but likewise Finland is Nokia’s home. It’s fine to have other offices and other localised HQ but the main central one should always be in Finland.

Cheers Kaizer Allen and Tommi for the tip!
