Nokia 808 PureView, Dynamic Range to the next level!

At the start of March, one of the few lucky enough to try the Nokia 808 PureView, James Burland said,

“In terms of colour, dynamic range, colour reproduction, “808 moves it all up into a higher orbit” than the N8.”

That’s saying something considering the high bar set by the N8 already. Nokia Connects posted an article last week precisely about pushing dynamic range to the next level by virtue of the super pixels.

The first picture above, taken in very bright, harsh light still preserved all details, even those in the shade.  The camera is in standard mode, no HDR.  Instead of the midday sun possibly ruining the image, PureView preserved all the detail.

In the second image we see this. Instead of the shadows being black and completely devoid of detail, you can still see some of their body. This was found by accident, the intended image was to just have some phantom random legs.

Having a histogram and knowing how to use it will greatly help achieve the perfect exposure.

This is a feature available on the 808 PureView.

BTW, it also appears that for maximum over sampling and zooming, then you can go all the way to 2mp.
