Video: Nokia N8 Flowers and Honey Bee

You know I like to share interesting video clips shot by a Nokia (pretty much all by N8 and deservedly so). This isn’t by Topolino70 but a YouTuber new to me. They have a clip of a honey bee, just with N8, none of the usual macro lenses.

This is because the N8, like the upcoming emperor camera phone 808 PureView, has pretty much lossless zoom in video. You zoom in without loss of detail. So, you can go in close with continuous autofocus, and then punch in that little bit closer with zoom! A great advantage to zoom (as well as getting closer) is that you don’t disturb the subject that might otherwise fly away if you physically get closer.

Note that there seems to be some haze here in this video, possibly a smear on the N8 camera. When it grabs focus, it gets some lovely bokeh. Note that the flower seems to be moving in the wind. When up close, those movements are exaggerated, even more so when you zoom in, so it’s quite an excellent job there by the N8 to hold focus.

There’s another video, though there’s something oddly creepy about it. Perhaps it’s the Reddit P-bear jokes I’ve come across and because I’ve just watched The Hills Have Eyes. There’s something unsettling about the way this is filmed behind a fence with that repetitive eerie squeaking from the playground swings. The intermittent sun-flares look oddly nice to me.

Some more red flowers.

Quite coincidentally, this user also has a bee in this shot. This looks particularly beautiful. I would love to have seen this as a photo. The blues, whites and greens look amazing here, punctuated by the bee in mid flight.

Amazingly yet another bee. We’re quite lucky today with the title as it would have just been all about that first video.  Again and again, several different people are able to capture amazing pictures/videos. There’s some curling on the page (e.g. 00:18) that makes me think there’s a lens on this video (likewise the same thing can be seen in those video stabilization filters). Look at how it rotates around this flower like some cinematic David Attenborough nature documentary. Is this really shot with the Nokia N8? The panning seems like it’s aided with some sort of equipment (handycam?). How is it even zooming out so much like that?

At the end there’s some insane zooming. I thought it might have been them phsically moving but it appears to just be zoom. Is this really the N8? The zoom looks quite a bit more that 3x. Perhaps a different app is doing it, or it might be a different device? Listening to the audio might help me differentiate it but I don’t have my headphones at hand.
