Nokia to Announce Quad Core Phablet with 1080p Screen Later This Year (September?)
The latest whispers to reach our ears from a source “familiar with Nokia’s plans” (but is no longer on the team) has mentioned that Nokia plan on releasing their first ever WIndows Phone phablet later this year. The device will also usher in Nokia’s era of Quad Core Lumias and it is very likely to also have a 1080p screen; all thanks to the upcoming GDR3 update which enables both those hardware features. We don’t have any word on the actual screen size as of yet but it’s definitely more than 5″.
GDR3 should finally level the playing ground in terms of the meaning less spec race that is going on (but in the end is what convinces most consumers, since “more is better”). Unfortunately I find a phablet Lumia pretty pointless if the larger real estate isn’t utilized by better software optimization; I don’t just want larger tiles, I want to get more out of my screen. More tiles per row (sure to come thanks to 1080p screen), landscape mode would be welcome, plus perhaps some other features to help with media consumption and more “tablet-like” features?
What features do you think should come with any Phablet (software or hardware wise?) Styluses? keyboards?
It’s likely that we’ll see the launch of this device at the Nokia event this September, alongside a couple other devices.
