Video: Cortana vs Siri vs Google Now

Here’s a quick video showing the comparison between the Nokia Lumia at the centre with Cortana, iPhone on the right with Siri and Android on the left with Google Now.

Now I’m sure there’s a few things the others do that Cortana might not and vice versa, things Cortana can do that the others can’t yet. But texting “text steve, what are you doing tonight”  will actually come up with the message and not just say “text steve” then “Say your message” plus you can add more if you wish to your message and compose quite a long message. Oddly, Cortana (as it did with Tell Me) puts a question mark correctly, the others didn’t. (There are some other interesting voice to text changes in WP8.1 outside of Cortana like it won’t type swear words or read them but it will write “1!@£$!@” or examples of that)

The navigation needs to be fully voice automated, i.e. no button pressing to confirm starting navigation somewhere. I think this might need updating of the Nokia Drive app from the store which wasn’t working for me until this morning.

Regarding reminders, I like that Cortana can make reminders based on location, like reminding me to get items when I arrive at a Sainsbury’s (grocery) or cook the chicken when I get home (which it assumes and asks is the location I slept at).

The US version works surprisingly well. I can’t wait for Cortana to be released for the UK. (And WP8.1 is so far rather enjoyable!)
