Microsoft vs Nokia Social Media teams – @windowsphoneuk call Star Wars fans ‘Trekkies’

This was on Reddit, showing a comparison between of the May 4th Star Wars Celebrations.

Nokia’s pretty much always on the ball with their social media stuff. Microsoft, seemingly not so much.

I’m not sure if the WP-UK twitter account was joking when they called the fans ‘Trekkies’ but it is something done on Reddit whereby references are purposely mixed up. Could this be MS just being so new and hipster that people think they’re doing it wrong or are they just doing it wrong?

Or, it could be a super clever move in getting folks to make a discussion. Who loves Star Wars/Star Trek? Geeks/Nerds is one major stereotype, possibly the same kind that are vocal on the web and love tech. How else to get them to have a natter and with such little effort?

Giving MS too much benefit of the doubt?
