Mary Jo Foley explains ‘One Windows’ – what it is, and what it isn’t!

For a long time, Microsoft has been building towards shifting to a unified Windows experience. We have often wished for more seamless transitions between devices, often yearning that our phones could be as versatile as the desktop/tablet counterparts.

There have been some misconceptions regarding what having One Windows actually means. MJF tries to give it her shot:

1) 1 single team. No more blaming the WP team for constantly twiddling thumbs as they’re going to be rolled into one whole mega team  under Terry Myerson.

2) A single core – the NT core, OneCore.

3) Unified store. The next major versions of windows phone and windows (possibly called ‘Threshold’) may have the unified store

4) Unified developer platform.

What it doesn’t mean?

1) There won’t be just ONE version of windows that would work on phone/tablet/pc/xbox.

What does that mean regarding the future of WP8? What about the UI? What is this UI that will work across all devices? More tiles? Something different again?
