Retirement of @evleaks, why, and the evleaks fundraiser
Yesterday (as I’ve missed the big news) world renowned tech leaker, @evleaks tweeted that he would be retiring. After an awesome two year stint, it appears he would no longer be dishing out any more hot tech gossip.
Over at TheNextWeb, Evan Blass explains his reasoning. It’s a complicated issue that boils down to money. With the burden of multiple sclerosis (MS), a progressive neurological inflammatory disease, and an unsustainable form of living, Evan wants to make sure he can prepare himself better for the future.
Could he return? He tells TNW that it’s unlikely but he would be beginning another career. He says he’ll keep the twitter handle as a personal feed.
Ev’s an awesome guy, always up for a chat. It’s a bit weird really to find out that I was chatting to Ev a while before he was @evleaks and not making the connection until he revealed it. (It wasn’t long until he publicly ‘came out’ and tells TNW that it was quite an emotional moment). He’s been particularly fantastic at bringing some juicy Nokia related news and we’ve been very fortunate to have had his support on the blog.
The good thing about missing some news as it happens I guess is that you see some development over things. There’s an @evleaks fundraiser over at:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/evleaks-fund
This campaign was started to help one of the most influential tech journalists and one of the top leakers of mobile hardware in our time.
This fund is to help Evan with Medical Costs and get him the necessary funds to be able to get healthy and return to the tech community.
